Author: T_Rex
Subject: 27591
Posted: 21 July 2009 at 7:48pm

We are slowly renovating our place and its so dusty all the time. It's driving me nuts. Every time I clean up the dust something else gets sanded and there is more dust. We've blown up 3 vacuum cleaners so far
We have 2 more rooms to do, and I can't wait to be done with dust. Then we can get carpet in which will be awesome. The place doesn't ever feel clean without carpet because the floors are all different, and the plywood floors are especially horrible underfoot. I don't want to get the carpet laid until I'm done with the sanding dust though, cos I don't want them to get filthy right away.
There is also clutter everywhere, cos half of the rooms are unusable or the old storage space has been dismantled and there isn't a new one yet. I got my towel cupboard finished last week so I don't have to keep my towels in a nice folded pile on the floor in the spare room. Sigh. We are making huge improvements to the house, but the process is doing my head in!! I hate the mess.

eta: I try and avoid having people round at the moment, and if I do have people round, I do a giant clean, and cram everything else in the spare room and shut the door. DH doesn't seem to get it though, and has been known to open the door to the catastrophic spare room to show someone something

Edited by T_Rex

I'd have to vacuum all day every day to keep on top of the cat fur.
Dishes sometimes get piled up, as not everything can go in the dishwasher, but after a day or 2 I wash everything.
Its so nice when all the surfaces are clean and clutter free
DH can be a bit ott about clutter, and has a habit of shoving things in drawers, annoys me as I then I can't find things.
I clean the toilet twice a week and the shower / bathroom once a week. soap scum is gross
I've been to houses where its filthy (my Nana's house is getting a bit that way) and you don't know where to sit and I hate eating there. Even when we were renting I'd clean the whole house at least once a week

I tend to do what I can when I can. I do washing everyday otherwise for some reason it seems to triple in size if I leave it any longer and then just the normal everyday stuff. Sheets get changed after DH's night shift's. I mop once a week but sweep and vacuum everyday. I try to do bathroom twice a week and fit anything else that needs to be done in where I can. But about a month ago I decided to give the lounge a really good clean up, moved furniture to vaucmn e.t.c and last week i did the kitchen and wiped down all the walls and skirting boards. So from now on I am going to try and do a complete clean every week. It is easy as we only have a small house.

We also have a dog and cat that shed everywhere, and we live on a dirt road so the inside gets so dusty in just a week. Summer is terrible for the dust.

I really want to get into the garden but the weather isn't co-operating. Need to pull out the dead plants and put in fertilizer.

Doesn't help that DP only does firewood and rubbish with out being asked. If I want him to do anything else I have to ask him and even then he could take a few reminders before doing it.

We have 5 children aged 1-10 and a bump on the way it seems as soon as i have cleaned something I turn around and they have demolished something else, lol. I just find it so hard to get on top of it even simple things like wiping the kitchen cupboard doors are a mission cause I have 2 little helpers each with a bowl of water and cloth which ends in me having to mop there water off the floor. Overall I am pleased with how clean and tidy I do manage to have it most of the time, my husband however still thought it should be perfect all the time and that Im home all day so why isnt it always like that. I decided to test his theory and had a day out a while ago and left the kids and house to him. I got home and he had done nothing, dishes still everywhere, no vacumming, washing, kids werent bathed, dinner wasnt on etc or, i said its hard to do everything as well as spending time with the kids to which he replied Im sorry I was going on about the house I didnt realise how hard it is and dont know how you do it.

DH has OCD (I believe, not confirmed as yet ) Even the shed and laundry are clean lol. There is never a day that goes by without the vacuuming being done (usually twice a day with the kids!) and the washing is always done. DH cant stand the sight of wet washing.

It really is hard sometimes, last night I left some books in the bookshelf and when DH got home from work last night he moved them and put them in my wardrobe. My wardrobe is the only place that isnt clean, cause thats where DH puts everything that I dont put away properly.
Same with the bin in Jacksons room, Im forever putting a nappy in it, and DH is right behind me putting it in the kitchen one. What is the point of having a bin in a childs room if im not allowed to put a nappy in it? LOL.

There is even a place for the remote at night, which is strategically placed on the coffee table. He will even fold and refold Janayas school stuff I get ready in the evenings, I should just throw it all in a pile and leave it for him as hes going to fold it again anyway!

He EVEN told me off the other day for not rotating Jacksons bottles, I wondered what on earth he was yapping on about, and he showed me that every time I select a bottle from the clean range I should always rotate the bottles around so that I give all the bottles a chance at being used. I told him I just grab any and not just the front one lol.

In fact, we are building a house at the moment, and I have made a lot of choices based on what is easy to clean, what will look clean/dirty etc, especially in the bathroom and kitchen. Drove DH mad.

Unfortunately our rental is small and therefore cluttered, especially with baby stuff. I honestly think I might go mad before our house is ready as I like things to NOT be cluttered.

The house gets messy (kid messy) every day, but it is always tidy again before I go to bed.

Like you Heather, I don't know how some people can bear to live surrounded by dirt. Mess, yes, but dirt no. I have rellies where I would prefer not to use their bathrooms or have a cup of tea if possible!
