Author: Kellz
Subject: 27634
Posted: 22 July 2009 at 2:23pm

Its not routinue to do hcg (pregnancy hormone). These are usually only done if u have had previous mc's, and you need to have more than one test to see if the number is increasing as it should be.
These tests are done as a baseline at beginning of pregnancy, so that tests later on can be compared to them if needed.

All the results you listed are a breakdown of all the things that are tested on a general full blood count test. The tests are not done specifically for pregnacy, the only thing the midwife will really be interested in is checking your Haemoglobin- as this can be affected if your iron levels get too low as they often do in preg- and will also drop after labour depending on the ammount of blood lost.

The white cell count is the total number of white cells in your blood (the cells that fight infection) and the Neutrophils, lymphocytes, basinophils, monocytes and eosinophils are types of white blood cells.

Platelets help to clot your blood.

Yep the numbers in brackets are the normal range.
I was expecting to see my progesterone levels, but that hasn't been included.

Obviously the negative syphillis and hep b are quite straight forward, but these are the one's I'm curious about:

Haemoglobin: 115 g/l (100-150)
Packed Cell Volume: 0.36 l/l (0.31-0.46)
Mean Cell Volume: 86 fl (80-99)
Mean Cell Haemoglobin: 28pg (27-33)
White Cell Count: 6.78 b/l (4.0-15)
Neutrophil Seg: 3.47 b/l (3.4-10.5)
Lymphocyte: 2.84 b/l (1.4-3.2)
Basophil: 0.02 b/l (0-0.2)
Eosinophil: 0.06 b/l (0-0.5)
Monocyte: 0.39 b/l (0-1)
Platelet Count: 274 b/l (150-400)

I'm guessing the the numbers in brackets are what's considered 'normal range' ?

Milliemoo
