First we would say when she said the F work "what are you saying?  Truck?  Duck?" and then when she repeated it, we were like "I have no idea what you are saying, it must be a made up word".  Second, we also don't react to it - unfortunately she has picked up a lot of swear words from daycare and phrases like "what the hell" - its not something we say!  <br /><br />And any word she says that bad, we have been known to say "oh, thats an F word - we don't say F words do we" and thats usually greeted with a no from her.  ]]>

We haven't had a repeat performance, and now DP and I are even more aware of cleaning up our own acts! That one I can blame on DH..<br /><br />I guess ignoring works better because when DH tells her off or mentions it she laughs and says it again.. ]]>

DH stepped in and said "yeah TRuck, TRuck, ha ha ha" but he wasn't fooled <IMG src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">. After that first time we made sure we didn't respond in any way if he said a bad word - just carried on as if he hadn't said it.     <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=18079">DJ</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 27664<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 23 July 2009 at 8:42pm<br /><br />I'm a bit shocked this has happened because DP and I thought we had been so careful not to swear since DD was born, but it seems that she has picked up a few colourful phrases.<br /><br />A couple of times in the last week when DP or I have said "arrgh" in a frustrated way, DD has said "sh*t or f*ck" even when we didn't say any more than the "argh".<br /><br />So what is your advice on how to deal with this?<br />Should we just ignore it and hope it goes away? or should we tell her that she isn't allowed to say those words?<br />Any other tips? ]]>
