LOL AzzaNZ - we had "jesus" a few months ago when we took her nappy off - I quickly realised that was DP's fault as he often said it when he changed poos! Naughty Daddy!

We started saying "Oh gosh!" very exaggeratedly as often as we could and she soon decided that it was a far cooler thing to say than "Oh sh*t"

We used 2 tactics. First we would say when she said the F work "what are you saying? Truck? Duck?" and then when she repeated it, we were like "I have no idea what you are saying, it must be a made up word". Second, we also don't react to it - unfortunately she has picked up a lot of swear words from daycare and phrases like "what the hell" - its not something we say!

Thanks for your comments. We haven't had a repeat performance, and now DP and I are even more aware of cleaning up our own acts! Can't help what other people say though!

I agree with telling her it is not ok to use those words, but not making a huge fuss atm

They do it for attention a bit... the more you give the kidlet, the more they'll say it! Just tell her calmly that you don't use those words and then ignore it.

Alyssa is older but she recently picked up "Dumbass" and calls her dad that , However I diverted it so she thinks it's "Thomas"... which is about 10% better but I still know what she is saying.. (yes she overheard me say it once!) haha

Now she also says "I'm trying to piss Kitty off" when talking about the cat. That one I can blame on DH..

Jimmy first said the 'f' word a while ago now, and I was so shocked that I laughed incredulously - which of course is the worst response. DH stepped in and said "yeah TRuck, TRuck, ha ha ha" but he wasn't fooled . After that first time we made sure we didn't respond in any way if he said a bad word - just carried on as if he hadn't said it. He soon got sick of saying it - I'm sure he hasn't forgotten though.

I would just say something like. "we don't use those words in our house" then let it be. If after a couple of days she is still saying it I would say the line then say please sit down and think about that. Leave her to sit for a minute then say we don't say naughty words in house house now come on lets go and play.

I'm a bit shocked this has happened because DP and I thought we had been so careful not to swear since DD was born, but it seems that she has picked up a few colourful phrases.

A couple of times in the last week when DP or I have said "arrgh" in a frustrated way, DD has said "sh*t or f*ck" even when we didn't say any more than the "argh".

So what is your advice on how to deal with this?
Should we just ignore it and hope it goes away? or should we tell her that she isn't allowed to say those words?
