Thanks for the question. No the Au Pair is expected to pay tax - it's $150-180 gross.

It's affordable for some families who pay about the same amount in daycare fees (many do) and would prefer their child in home-based care. Plus we have Early Childhood Educators that work alongside the Au Pair...

Yes but it's after tax so parents have to pay tax to IRD right? Not to mention boarding = money as well. Oh - I've been meaning to share this for a while actually, but haven't got around to it seeing as I'm pregnant and that's my reason for attending the message forums here. However, I thought I should mention I own a nanny agency. We have Au Pairs who can work up to fulltime hours for $150-180pw which includes 2 evenings per week of babysitting so you can enjoy a night out with your partner!!
