Jack was in our room at night until 5mths when he got too big for the bassinette, he slept in the lounge during the day.
Ben is in our room and will be until he gets too big for the bassinette (5mrhs maybe?), he slepts in the lounge during the day.

With it being winter I have less rooms to heat and I can hear him (or keep an eye on him during the day) which makes me feel more reassured that he is OK.
BF in bed at night is good as it is comfy, can lie down if I want and I think I wake up less than if I have to go into another room (did for a while with Jack). We will have the baby in our room at least for the first 6months or so. I live in Dunedin so its too cold to go traipsing the hallway in the middle of the night, although I seem to be doing that anyway with my midnight toilet stops! We will be having baby sleep in our room, got the cot set up next to my side of the be and have put a carrycot in the cot for the first couple of months, then will put baby straight into big cot. when carrycot gets to snug.

Just think it will make it easier with the feeding and changing of nappies in the middle of the night...

Bailey slept in his own room from the get go, but had really bad reflux and after spending a few times in hospital spent most of the time attached to me lol

I loved my girls sleeping next to me supposedly in their basinette and then their cot, but usually in our bed... My oldest ended up staying in my room until 2-3ish - years that is lol (she had her own room then but usually slept in my bed) ... my youngest finally moved out about 14-15 months.... I'm a lazy person so had both of mine in a bassinet right next to my bed. My feet didn't even touch the floor during night feeds it was great.

Jack must of moved out about 4 months, I'm guessing to go into his cot but i can't really remember

Caprece moved into her room at 6 months because she was such a terrible sleeper and I needed to try something different lol

Hollie was in with us for the first 7 months, because I am a naturally anxious person, and the only way I could rest soundly was to have her close.

I was planning on doing that too ,but I think it depends on many factors, how cold it is at night etc, how far away the bedroom is.
Plus , when its your first, you don't realise how protective you feel of them when they are here .
You don't necessarily get a good nights sleep when they are in their own room (my daughter was in her own room early on ) and I got less sleep because I was more worried about her .

Callum was in with us for the first 8 weeks or so. DH stuck it out for the first couple of weeks we had him home but he is such a light sleeper and never learned to sleep through so he would help with feeds until about 2am and then he would go sleep in the spare room. I haven't read all the responses, but Tyler is in our room ,hes still waking frequently at night and buggered if Im gonna hop out of my nice warm bed, to go into another room .

Rory is still in his bassinet in my room. He is a quiet sleeper and doesnt wake unless i make a loudish noise and there is nobody else to worry about being woken.

Soon Rory will be out of his bassinet and i still havent made my mind up if im putting him in his own room. I feel more comfortable knowing he is near me.

I also get interference on my monitor so that would probably be a lot more noisier then him. During the day he sleeps in the living room.

I agree with the other ladies, maybe have bubs in your room for the first week to see how it goes. we have DD in the room that we are in. If we are in the lounge during the day...she's in the lounge, if we are in the bedroom...she's in the bedroom. I can't handle being away from her. We only have one bedroom so DD is set up in the lounge although she spends alot more time in our bed then she does in her own bassinet.

When it comes to the early morning I find it alot easier to have her in our bed it means that if she just wants a cuddle or a change I can do it quickly and go back to bed.

Kaelen slept in our room for the first 6 months. I would have kept him in there till one but us being in the room started to disturb his sleep. He ended up in our bed a lot till around 10 months anyway. lol.

We'll be doing the same with this baby. DD was in her pram bassinet parked next to our bed for about 3 - 4 weeks then into her own room, which meant we all slept better. We had an angelcare monitor in her cot for piece of mind, highly recommend them.

Yep, three weeks and that was it, he was in his own room, and before that I think he was just outside in the lounge in his basinette as he was too noisy, and at three weeks he was too big for the basinette and kept bashing his arms against the side and kicking the end of it!

Lydia was in a bassinet in our room for 2 weeks - then she caught her first cold. She got so noisy, I kept thinking she was awake/hungry, would get her up to feed, and she wasn't hungry at all! We weren't getting any sleep, so she was banished to her own room across the hall. I leave the doors open, both to help keep the rooms warm (heater's in the hall), and so I can hear her when she calls. What I can't hear is all the snuffling, farting, moaning, chattering..... bliss!

Next one... probably in our room to start, we'll see how long it lasts. Might only be 2 weeks again!

we had Megan in her basinnet in our room for about um 3 nights we just found she was too noisy and we didnt get much sleep.

we put her into her own room after that.

I had Melissa in the room with me for the first 4 months, she was a good sleeper.

With Cameron he was in his own room in a cot at 3 weeks because if he heard me move at night he would cry for a feed, he slept better in his own room. Caden was in our room for about 6 months, then went into his own room.

henry was in our room for the first 6months. He was still feeding at night and i would feed him in bed. I also slept better with him in the room because i could hear him breathing. I would just try it for a week and if you hate it then it isnt that big a deal to move them out.
We will have this bubs in our room too probably for the first 6months i think (though we will just play it by ear).
Dh has never woken up with henry crying as a newborn. We had Jake in his bassinet until he was 3 months.

DH learnt to sleep through and still has no idea how many times I get up to Jake at night.

I was so nervous moving him into his room but I just couldnt get a good nights sleep and tbh I think my snoring was waking him

I loved being able to just pull him into bed with me and would often wake up an hour or 2 after getting him with him asleep still sucking away LOL. Issy was in with us for the first six months.

Elias will be in with us until he outgrows his bassinette as we cant fit a cot into our room in this house.

You get used to the noise (well I did) .. we had Jack with us (or in the hallway outside the bedroom door if he was too loud!) for the first 6 weeks.

It drove me nuts! They are so loud and snuffly, you hear every little breath, fart etc. It does give you peace of mind though.

Ella was in our room during the night for the first 3 months- it was so much easier feeding her at night, with her bassinent just close by and I meant I could go to her and just bring her into bed for a feed. Also because it was the middle of winter I didn't have to go into the cold hallway (although I hated having to sleep in a really warm room) to get her. It was meant I slept much more soundly as I could her breathing beside me.

During the day she either slept in the living room or in her room.

 

Planning on doing the same thing with this bub.

At this stage we plan to have bubs in the cot in his own room from day one. We dont have a bassinett and dont plan on getting one. We had Spencer in with us until 4 months, he then out grew his bassinet, and Kyle has just moved out this week at 6.5 months (managed to squeeze his cot in with us as his room wasn't ready but the room has been quite cramped cos of it).

I found I learnt to sleep through all the non food related noises so they didn't wake me unless they were hungry and DH learnt to sleep through everything, he has no idea how many times I get up a night. I don't think it's much different to having a baby monitor next to you really, actually I find that more annoying as ours has interference on it all the time.

I liked having them close especially when they are very little, i didn't feed in our room as I spray milk everywhere so have always gone out to the lounge to feed but lots of women feed in bed which would be handy.

We have bubs in our room at present (He's 8 weeks old). Here are mine:

Pros:
- Only have to keep one room heated at night
- Can feed in bed
- I think bubs feels more secure/safe being close to Mum/Dad
- Easy to get up and settle if he becomes unsettled

Cons:
- You can hear every little snort and snuffle so even though he might not be awake, you now are
- DH can wake up for those middle of the night feeds and if he's got work, will not be a happy camper (he may sleep on couch to get a decent nights sleep - good luck getting it on the couch - leaving you to feel abandoned)
- Cabin fever. You might feel like you've been stuck in the same room for weeks and weeks

Hi

We had dd in our room for 7 mnths, I was bf'ing and was easier just to have her close by. She was in a bassinet first then we put cot up.
We plan to do the same with this one.

I know a few people who put bubs in own room straight away, and some who couldn't sleep cause bubs made so much noise.

Just wondering about whether to plan for baby to initially sleep in our room or to sleep in her own room (next to our room)?

What have ppl done with their babies, and/or planning to do with subsequent babies?

Wondering about the pros and cons of each.
