Author: minik8e
Subject: 27953
Posted: 07 August 2009 at 1:52pm

I've only had one biopsy taken, but had LLETZ treatment afterwards, as I had lesions on 3/4 of my cervix (I had CIN3 cells). I think that with the biopsies, they only take a small amount that doesn't make a lot of difference. With my LLETZ, they also removed part of the middle of my cervix, but my ob has said it's fine, I may have problems with labour as I can have three possibilities - my cervix dilates as per normal, my cervix dilates quicker than usual or my cervix doesn't dilate at all because of scar tissue. I just made sure that he was aware of it from the word go, and they assessed it from there. I am on yearly smears for the rest of my life, or until I turn 75 - whichever comes first.

ETA: Good luck - I did mean to write that before, but forgot

Edited by minik8e

They usually put this silver sh*t on it which stops the bleeding. I just had some very minor bleeding, like enough to need a liner but only for that day - I was watching it on the big screen and it didn't bleed that much

    Author: BuzzyBee
Subject: 27953
Posted: 07 August 2009 at 9:52am

Hi I just have a few questions regarding abnormal smears and adverse effects of continuously having to go for colposcopies and biopsies of the cervix...

I have had yet another abnormal cervical smear result (happens often and generally I get bumped up to 6 monthly checks), when DS was 10 or so months old I had to have a colposcopy and biopsy and thankfully it came back okay, but this time the smear results were different (apparently a stage further than they like to see, worse than my last results and some mention about a lesion) so it's straight back to specialist for another colp/biopsy.

So one of my questions is, if they are snipping bits of my cervix everytime I get this done - does that mean after X amount of years of having the same procedure done that I might have trouble having more kids? ...like how much cervix can they snip away at before I have none left, or does it just grow back or what? ( I do plan on asking the gynae this, but curiosity is getting the better of me atm)

And anyone have any clue as to what happens if biopsy results don't come back clear?

Cervical Cancer is very prominent in our family, my Aunty ended up having treatment and hysterectomy last year as a result, but her case was obviously a bit different due to age and other factors etc ...and as an added bonus I am also more prone to the cervical cancer cells because of something i have/carry so the odds aren't in my favour.

That aside is there anyone else on here that has had a similar experience? I'm worried that this is going to be the case for the next 20 years or so ...trapsing back and forth between my GP and gynae because every 6 monthly smear is coming back abnormal iykwim, or is there a chance that they might suggest something drastic as a form of prevention? ...has only been 5 months since I had a lap/cystectomy. I feel like im forever in/out of specialists, drs hospitals, my womans bits and pieces seem to be causing the most grief atm.

If you don't feel comfortable discussing this on a public forum please feel free to PM me...
