Author: sally belly
Subject: 28180
Posted: 19 August 2009 at 3:52pm

I agree with Peanut & think that it could be confusing for them to be in cot for day sleeps but the bed at night. I suspect we just have to ride this phase out & hope that it doesn't take too long for them to get used to being in bed & realise that getting up is not that interesting...

I have had the hugest battle with Liam today & he was in his room for 2.5 hours & didn't sleep at all. Up until today I was using the safety sleep for day sleeps but it seems he can squirm out of it no matter how tightly I pin it (with 3 pins) . I thought I'd taken everything interesting out of his room but he had taken pictures off the wall & smeared nappy cream on the floor

I am like Stacey & don't go in to put him back to bed constantly. He gets out of bed before I've even left the room & currently I just don't have the patience to deal with it.

He will be in bed early tonight though & tomorrow he will be daycare's "problem"

Edited by sally belly

All his toys, clothes etc are in his wardrobe that he can't get into. I do leave him a couple of books though.

We used the safety sleep for the first week of day sleeps and then he figured out how to undone it but by that point he had got use to being in bed.

We put him to bed, read a story or two, then shut the door and leave him to it. Usually I go in about 20 mins later and he is sound asleep back in his bed.

I personally think doing daysleeps in one bed and nights in another is confusing for the child and won't help in getting her to stay in bed which is the issue but that is just me!

The result has been the side goes back on the cot till he falls asleep and then we take it off. I HATE IT!!! IT is so hard when you are exhausted and trying to feed a very distractable baby.

I'm just hoping it wont last. I'd happily keep tom in his cot except he has it in his mind that he wants a "big boys bed". Daniels room has nothing interesting in it. For day sleeps I shut the door and leave him to it. There is his cot mattress on the floor under his bed so he can pull that out if he really wants to. I just go in and check on him every 20 mins or so to make sure he hasn't poo'ed and if he hasn't I walk straight back out. I think getting in and out is just a game so I don't play. Sometimes hes fallen asleep on the floor but he doesn't care

We stripped their rooms completely - no bedside tables, drawers, bookshelf etc., we even locked the wardrobe door so they couldn't get in there.
