This might be too personal for you to want to answer out in the open, but I don't mean anything rude by it at all - were you sexually active at that age ? I'm a weird case as I had my first smear when I was 17, rather than 20. I'm curious about why they sent you for a colposcopy straight after your first abnormal smear, I got an abnormal result some time back, and they told me I'd have to wait six months just to do another smear and see if things had progressed or not, and THEN they'd do a colposcopy. My GP told me that most women who have regular smears will get an abnormal result at least once in their lifetime ! As for the infertility thing, I don't have any personal or medical experience to back it up either sorry, but I reckon it wouldn't but a very big dent in your chances of conception either. Hi there
Once again Im not a doctor either but I have had 3 cone biopsies as well as laser surgery on my cervix and have concieved twice. One of those preganacies being twins!!!!

Once again, this is just anecdotal, but my girlfriend had the same thing. She has a little boy, but apprently they were trying for about a year. ok dont take this as medical advice or anything cos obviously Im no doctor and would hate to lead you in the wrong direction but this is what happened to my sister well in fact both sisters and my mother but more seriously and recently my sister. She had abnormal cells and then progressed to stage one cancer which was removed (as were previous abnormal cells in all 3 people) she has since had another two children and is pregnant with her 4th! She has also had a cone biopsy which is pretty envasive, cos they thought the cancer had come back and told her she would need hysterectomy (sp) but it came back clear and 2 months later was pregnant. Apart from family I know at least 5 ladies who have had coposcopys for abnormal cells and all have had kids or are pregnant now. As I said this is just my experience and I know everyone is different but try not to worry until you have all the facts. I don't know if any of you ladies will know the answer to this but I had an abnormal smear in august last year. I then was referred to the hospital and had a colopsy (sp?) and that came back with low grade changes. They decided to leave me and do another one in 6 months, well 9 months later I finally got one on monday. The guy says everything still looks the same but it will take some time for the lab results.

However I have heard from my mum in law that she thinks if the cells were removed this could potentially cause infertility. I wondered what your girls take on that was?
