after I calmed down (and stopped googling autism sites), deciding I am going to talk to her tomorrow - basically say okay for the referral (and perhaps ask what it actaully is), but i want to know if she has discussed her concerns with the junior team - cause am wondering if he was the same there. he seems to be a different kid here - apart from not socialising - he has never been a social kid. So i can figure out if it is a transition thing. he has been at the new section for a month now.

have also talked to mum and I think i'm babying him a bit. at this age jake did loads more for himself.   I guess Taine is just my baby and I forget he is nearly 4.

i think Kelly we talked about something similiar when someone said something about jake - you just want to run over screaming "DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT MY CHILD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SPECIAL KID HERE????"

apparently that is frowned upon.

We all want to think our children are the best , and its because we are right, they ARE the best .

Aw hun to me it just sounds like he is having a bit of trouble adjusting, maybe he is really missing some of the other kids and his old carer, the one that he loves?

I know I'm going to take it hard when we get bad reports about Chloe or Ollie. I already feel a bit down when someone makes a funny comment here or there, or says they don't like children or something so as soon as something like a bad report comes along, my heart will probably break, lol.

It's our job as mummies to be wired to be protective of our kids.

How long has he been in the new area? Sounds like he has got a few things to get used to that may be done differently to the junior area. Do they move kids up in groups (so they already have friends) or individually?
Did they say why they are referring him, or just that they think he's developmentally behind?

she said that his development was behind other kids his age and while it was normal for each kid to develop on their own, it was also something to be watching out for.

the referral - well, i can't remember what she said it was for to be honest...GC or something. I don't know what she meant and was too busy feeling teary and indignant to ask.

awww it sounds like Taine is just having a few settling problems, I would think it was normal for him to feel distant without the people he knows around him.

What sort of referral does she want to put in?? (Sorry new to all this daycare stuff)

this is less of an "advice' thread - more of a "rant" thread.

anyway, taine has just been moved from junior area to pakeke (the pre-school) area. Initially i was a bit worried how he would make the transitition as he LOVED one of his carers, so today I asked how he was getting on.

His new carer said that she had concerns and proceeded to list them

he's not participating in mat time - wandering off
won't talk to the carers, or make eye contact
very defiant - always says "no" - they asked if wanted a lolly and he said "yes' so he definitely understands the meaning.
won't play and isn't interested in playing with the other kids.

She wants put in a referral.

when she was telling me this, i was just gutted. I really wanted her just to say what a wonderful boy he was, i wanted to think he was with someone during the day who adores him, and just saying all those problems, i was nearly in tears.

BTW, she was really caring and professional, so my reaction was NOTHING about the way she put things.

I have never thought of myself as being one of "those" mothers I see at school

"my child is gifted" - despite showing signs of being distinctly average. I always knew my kids would never be perfect, but to hear someone say how "unperfect" Taine was, just killed me.
