I got an angelcare one last week, think it's great but are mineful that it's only for infrequent use. But finding the babies heartbeat was easy and an immediate relief and meant I could finally enjoy this pregnancy without the worry of a possible missed miscarriage again. I have one and for peace of mind - I totally reccommend it!
I used it quite a lot with Lily and have done when this bubs was a few weeks old to work out how fast the heartrate was - and to hear it moving when I had my doubts!

I've also lent it to my friends too who have all thought it was pretty cool!

yeah i might ask mw...my last mw didnt like scans for that reason but was fine with heartbeat finding and stuff like that.. though she didnt like dopplers because people would freak out if they couldn't hear the heartbeat.

Yeah I had Spencer freak out when being monitored and the mw said about them not liking it. I was then monitored twice daily at the end of my pregnancy and each time he disliked it and would kick about like a loon, one night they even called the OB in cos his heart rate was up over 180 for the whole 30 mins that they had it one me.

Guess every MW is different but we commented on how much he kicks at the doppler and she said all babies do that because they are trying to get away from the noise.

My MW has been around for many (many many) years and has kids of her own as well. In fact she was pregnant with her first when she was doing her midwifery training.

I've got a lot of faith in what she says as she's a very "no nonsense" lady.

 

Each to their own though. Perhaps ask your MW's about it and see what they say about it.

I thought of getting a doppler but decided not to when my MW explained that it's not actually a pleasant experience for baby because the doppler uses sound waves to pick up babies heartbeat and movements which cause loud echoing noises for baby inside your uterus which is why they tend to kick and move away from the dopplers cause it upsets them.

 

When I got to my MW she only puts the doppler on long enough to find the heartbeat and record his heartrate then she gets it straight off.

I got it with Aidan - although not much use, my mate then used it and now Ive been using it the last week
