I learnt something today!

1/4 cup in a bath, obviously not a baby bath. 1/2 cup if it's a big bath, twice a week will help if not stop itching.

my little girl has eczema too and I have tried just about everything under the sun!

I am now using a product called 'DermaVeen', both the wash (for her scalp) and the mositurising lotion, and it has worked a treat! Her eczema has pretty much cleared up (all the nasty looking patches anyway) and her crusty cradle cap has disappeared. DermaVeen doesn't contain any fragrance, parabens or lanolin. I just bought it at a pharmacy (not all have it tho), the pharmacist recommended it.

I have also cut back on eggs, milk and cheese (cos I am breastfeeding) so that might also have made a difference.

I got it on script from the paed, I have the standard one and one with 1% hydrocortisone (which I have pretty much never used). The standard one you can just buy at the pharmacist, just is free on script. Is only about $6-10 to buy though and it's a massive tub.

Sarah, cut him back to just a rice based cereal & pears & see if he clears up on that. He should do, then start adding one individual food at a time & give it a good go ie a week poss to see if he reacts.

Be aware that you should go back to just a plain diet for at least 10 days as they can get withdrawl symptoms which are the same as the reactions he's having.

HI Auntie Sarah, my DS2 had this & if it is since he has started on solids then here are a few thigns to make sure you cut out:

Tomato based products
Pumkpin based products
Citrus fruits i.e. orange, Berries or Pineapple

I am on a very strict diet as David has had it ever since he was born pretty much but the other main things i have cut out is Cocoa, egg, Cheese, Fizzy, Ice Cream, Yoghurt, Nuts,

Yeah when I have to use stuff then I use lemnis fatty cream and alpha keri oil in the bath, alpha keri is paraffin based so not as nice as the natural ones but I only use it now and then and it clears them up quickly, is nice if they get nappy rash as well. Someone was recommending almond oil in one of the other threads, I haven't tried it as we are not to go near nuts and I would suggest as it might be allergy related that you stay clear of anything containing nuts as well. Aveeno are probably covering their asses if it's not been tested on eczema - if they advised you to use it and it had any ill effect it might come back to bite them?

I emailed the aveeno people a while back - they said they hadnt designed it for use on childrens excema and didnt advise me to use it. I use a product called Hope's Relief (I get Eczema around my eyes and Psoriasis on my elbows)

It's a bit on the expensive side ($25 for a 50gram pot) but you only need to put a tiny amount on and it clears it up pretty quick.

 

I would say you would have to remove things from your own diet as well as babies to totally eliminate the reaction.

My theory is that with BM alone, it probably wasn't enough to set the reaction off, but now that it has been set off with solids, anything thats in your BM will but enough to just fuel the reaction.

Thats my theory anyway, be it wrong or right.

Has anyone tried using Aveeno moisturiser for their child's excema? I'm currently using Xma-Ease cream on Campbell's excema patches on his scalp, but its expensive! And it doesn't clear it up anyway, I think it helps a bit with the itchiness, but that's it. Floyd has had eczema since he was a few weeks old but Ive also noticed it has gotten worse since starting solids and he is rubbing his eyes too, so I'll be very interested to know if you figure it out!

Thanks, I will try the johnsons stuff Just trialling at the moment to see if we can find any food that sets it off more. He has really itchy eyes at the moment too god knows what that is from, maybe slightly allergic to the cats like his dad? I second the J&J soothing naturals lotions. They are fabulous at clearing up the horrible dry patches, plus it smells yummy   We have found it much better than any of the creams/lotions prescibed by the doctors on.

Sam's is caused partially by diet - I know dairy sets it off big time, but it is also very seasonal. I can't really help with the cause of it or the BF stuff cause I simply don't have any experience but if you want to soothe the patches we found johnsons soothing naturals (the one in the upside down tube - more expensive one) moisturiser was fab at getting rid of Daniels. I posted this in the allergies thread but I don't know how many people actually go in there.

My son has developed eczema pretty much all over since we started solids. About a week ago I cut right back to just feeding him fruit and veges and the really bad patches seemed to improve, but it is still all over him. I have just been reading about how if you are breastfeeding you should cut things out of your own diet too. His eczema didn't start until he started solids though - do I still need to cut things out of my own diet to try and figure out what it is? Why wouldn't he have reacted when he was exclusively breastfed?
