I definately agree. You cant overfeed a breastfeed baby. They will just refuse if they are not hungry.

What can happen however is that they drink little bits more often but never really get the hindmilk in as they are just drinking the watery front bits. Way I overcome this is usually to offer the one boob and only 3 hours later switch to the other one.

Joscia I'm doing almost exactly the same feed play sleep routine as you, and Aston also doubled his birth weight about 2 or 3 weeks ago (he's just gone 12 weeks)... I just figure him and I are lucky, and now he is refusing if he isn't hungry, and what he isn't using most definately just comes out the other end!

I normally get him up, play for a bit, feed him one from boob, a bit more play, change, then give him the other boob, then wrapped and back down to bed - all within an hour / hour and a bit.

I was definitely letting him go too long with awake time for the first month or so and he got so overtired, poor wee mite, so I'm pretty vigilant about tired signs now.

The only thing is - if he sleeps for just 45 mins, rather than a full hour - which he sometimes does, I feel like if I feed him again when he wakes up it's an awful lot of feeding!

But do what works, if your baby wants @@ then give it to him. Just try not to do what I think I used to do & confuse tiredness with hunger. So if you know you only feed an hour ago, chances are he's tired, but put him to bed & if he won't settle then he might be hungry

Do what is best for you and what works for you and your baby.

I feed my baby 3hourly and sometimes more in different cirumstances. She is healthy, she is well, she is happy and cries like babies are supposed too, as im sure your wee does too.

Yes, you can stop worrying
You can't overfeed a breastfed baby. I worried too and had read in several books that you can't over feed breastmilk but asked my plunket nurse just incase

My baby will mostly feed when it's offered but I found with both my children that if they eat too much it comes back out again.

He's still little so feeding 2-3 hrly is completely normal.

It sounds like you're doing a great job sop stop worrying about feeding

Is there such a thing when you have a BF on demand baby?

I'm just mildly concerned / curious about DS's eating habits.

He's 14 weeks now and I've read that he should be able to go 3 or 4 hours between feeds - and sometimes he does. But his normal day routine at the moment is 1 hour awake time, and then down for an hour's sleep. I offer him 1/2 a feed shortly after he wakes up, and the other 1/2 before he goes back down, and 90% of the time he has both. But I'm wondering if I'm feeding him too often.

Should I try skipping some of these feeds maybe? But surely he wouldn't feed if he wasn't hungry right? What do other people do??
