we go to the mojo down the bottom of the city they are good with kids, wouldnt like to be there if it got too busy
Felix (almost opps the james smith)has good coffee but slightly more pricy on the food side of things, also good with the mini.
Expresso Republic on featherston st (sort of on the opposite side of the block to kirks if you get what I mean). Has good coffee, but some of its hours are quite limited food is good!!
Neo on Willis st no good for pushchairs but good coffee.

The new one in dukes arcade is run by the people who started expresso republic and its fantastic!

Botanical garden cafe iskid friendly didnt like coffee though. Luke warm and weak!

Umm the Mojo in Darth Vaders Pencil Box (BNZ Centre is brilliant, heaps of space for buggy, Laura personally likes listening to the echo of her voice.. good on the food and the coffee everytime Ive been)

Zilatas in the willis st Village its only open business hours but its pasta is to die for has pretty good coffee too, I think however they use a mix blend usually.

Hutt ways, Buzz has good food and good coffee (mostly ) a bit of a jungle with a pushchair but they are friendly.. they are quite bustling on the weekends so its a good place to book, you can alsobook the highchair

Manuka upstairs in Westfield (queensgate) has brilliant coffee, good service also has a high chair, and theres an lil indoor playground for under 5s right next to the coffee place (it has couches by the playground too ) so yay.

Thai places are generally great for kids - if run by Thais. When we went to Thialand, they went CRAZY over Jake. they piocked him up, took photos with him and kissed him to bits. He thought the attention was just what he deserved and lapped it all up, waving to people all over. Mmmmmmm - I love working in Wellington. Simply and truly just love it. I don't know how i'm gonna cope without my morning "Large trim flat white with an extra shot, extra hot, takeaway please" when I get pregnant. I think I will just go in to Mojo and watch everyone else and cry
From where I work there are over 10 cafes within 2 minutes of me that I would happily have a coffee from. Of course I go to the same couple all the time but hey - its great to have options!!

there are hardly any good places in christchurch especially just for coffee rather than a meal. The musuem has a good we play area in the cafe and is big but expensive. Bunnings have a really good play area that is completely fenced and tables around it but its freezing in winter and the food is average, always cold. CobbnCo and Woodpeckers have play areas but not positioned well enough that you can sit and eat and still watch the kids. Oh - for you Palmy girls - Cafe Cuba and their YUMMY hot chocolate bowls and banoffi pie and chocolate silk cake. Aqaba for tasty dinners...and the Thai places on Fitzherbert Ave for takeaway Thai. Ahhh Palmy.

Greytown - who would have thought that there would be such greatness in such a drive-through place? The White Swan, the French bakery there and Salute.

Masterton - I heartily recommend Toad's Landing if you get a chance - it's a catering and venue for weddings etc - but my goodness the food is AMAZING. The Ten O'Clock Cookie Bakery and Cafe has some of the best pies and pastries I have tasted. Hubby wanted something more 'Aucklandish' while we were there and settled on a sub-standard average cafe further down the street, whereas while I was enjoying my apricot chicken pie at the Ten O'Clock Cookie Bakery and Cafe I had the chance to see that they had won Top Pastry Goods (or something like it) in the 2005 National Champs. Silly, silly hubby.

Wellington - I have to say, Lambton Quay has the WORST access for pushchairs - we ended up sending the hubby up the stairs and getting takeaways to eat in a park because the access was so awful. How do people in wheelchairs cope? I used to love the chicken curry pasta at the Dixon St Deli but that was so long ago I'm not sure if they exist anymore.

Lower Hutt - a big hello there to the cafe on the ground floor in the Centre City Plaza on High Street and the pizza slices that they make. Yummm.

That's what is ideal about cafes Kat, you can pretend it's one of the other mothers' child!!! *muhahahaha* (or at the very least, let who ever you are with deal with it. I have no qualms about picking a child off the ground mid-tantrum and moving them outside )

- and Kat, yep! Maybe we could do that this weekend? And they could play on the beach afterwards?

Maranui Cafe is cool - has a coin-operated ride on thing (can't for the life of me remember which animal) which Hannah played on for aaaaaaages. (She hasn't figured out the whole 'money to operate' thing yet. Plan to keep it that way for as long as possible). Can't vouch for food but coffee was brilliant and cool atmosphere. Only crap thing is that it is upstairs so can't take up buggy.

That's Eva Dixon's at the Zoo

Maranui is really cool, Ella had her first fluffy there the other day
They have great food and excellent service etc but I didn't see any toys there.. but other than that I can't complain! Nikki we should go there sometime.

Umm.. the Brooklyn Cafe (in College St) has a little slide and quite a few toys, there are kid friendly too.

Also i love Clarks in the library, good food and the prices are reasonable too.
Not to mention the playground type area in the middle of the cafe.

Another child friendly cafe is the one next to the Wellington Zoo - can't think of the name but they sometimes bring in animals to show people which is kinda cool.

I LOVE Chocolate fish! My sis took me there when I was down a few months ago (that is the one on the waterfront somewhere ay? And they have tables across the road?) And another one she took me too was "thinks" Screaming Turtle or Flying Turtle (or something Turtle!) Can't remember where it was cause I had a hangover! (Hence didnt take arna!)

I luuurve Fidels as well but have only been there when it was suuuper busy and limited space for little mongrel (who was trying to eat all the salt out of the shakers!)

Clarkes in the library is the most child friendly place I have been to in the city.
I think Katipo on Willis is great - no good if you have a pram/pushchair though as it is up some stairs. Really nice vibe, great food, good coffee.
I LOVE Fidels on upper Cuba. They use Havana Beans (my fav) and have a great menu and the cabinet food is gorjus!! Fantastic choc cake. Really nice relaxed feel. I have seen babies there and they seem to enjoy it (the babies :-)
Hmmmm - I think I have been to almost every cafe in central Wellington. I love it.
I think Dixon Street Deli has fabulous food and they use Supreme Beans so they do a solid coffee too. The salads that they have are great - esp the Pumpkin and Feta. I have seen people trying to navigate prams in there - not a good idea. Good for littlies though. My little man loves it there.
The best suburban place I have been to lately is the new Peppermill Deli in Porirua. They use Mojo beans (my second fav) and have a really good menu. I think their caramel slice is THE BEST!! (I try the caramel slice everywhere I go) I think they actually get it from the Brookly Bread place
Theres a great new place on Tory Street called Schoc. They are a chocolatier place. They have coffee and sell a huge range of chocolates. The hot chocolate is the best!! They have all different flavours - the chocolate and chilli one is great.
I think one of the best places for a cooked breakfast is Arizona on Featherston Street. Huge servings and great quality. They are child friendly - my little man learnt his numbers in there when they had all the license plates up on the wall!! Although - i have heard mutterings that they are slipping a bit. I am yet to experience that!!

Right... well after reading the posts that the Auckland girls wrote, I am getting extremely hungry for some yummy cafe food (although right now I am stuck up at Uni where the food is average to crap.)

So, list your fav cafes here along with which city/suburb they are in and their strong points (baby friendly, excellent coffee, etc)

I especially want to hear from those in Wellington I haven't found anywhere fantastic yet. Altho I looooved the chocolate fish cafe. Hrmmm...
