My mums idea, thats what she used as they didnt have breastpads like they do now back then. Not as comfy but they do the trick. Wow great idea for the breast pads, didnt even think of that. Might have to do that since AF doesnt look like its coming back anytime soon!

I had the libra mat ones and HATED them, ended cutting them up and using them when I had run out of breastpads LOL.

I LOVED the hospital ones. There is no way I could get about with those surfboards with AF but for some reason they were perfect post birth. I so wasn't keen on the hospital ones either but they turned out to be the best. You'll be a bit sore down there and they are so soft and comfortable. Plus you have to change them soooo often its great that they are free and in never ending supply. I used busget the first week or 2. Then just normal ones but the thicker ones. Then after that normal thin pads. Second the nappies!! I wore them for the first day or so, then surfboards. Then after a week or so just normal pads.

I didn't get a chance to pack a hospital bag as I delivered at 31 weeks - so I ended up just using the hospital ones and they were brilliant. I had to stay in hospital for a while after the birth so after a couple of days thought I'd get my own maternity pads while out on hospital leave for a couple of hours, but the ones I bought I didn't like at all and I went back to raiding the hospital ones again. After a few days I wasn't really bleeding too heavy at all and just ended up going to my normal pads. I found the hospital pads awesome and used them for days. I never had any problems with leaking, in fact I didn't bleed too heavily at all, just like a heavy period...I definitely wouldn't have needed a newborn nappy. For the first few days its a really good idea to use a newborn nappy with a pad in it as you leak heaps. Sounds like budgets the go for the first part. Some of the pads at the hospital accidentally fell into my bag on the way out too.

I used the hospital ones for the first day, but thats cos I had a C Section and you can move for the first day and they change your pads for you lol, but once Id gotten up and had a shower, i used my Libra ones. I second the big fat cheap surfboard budget ones to begin with.     You go through quite a few and they make you feel really protected and cushioned down there.      The ones they gave me at Waikato Hospital were pretty much the same and I went through heaps of those.

I can't remember which brand I used, but to start with I think it was budget with wings - nice and thick to cushion all the tender bits.
