im kind of putting all my hope in trying a different formula tommorow but i have to say that she has been waaayyy more settled now without the losec!!! she falls apart without the infacol though so im leaning towards colic....

We moved there from Auckland in 1998 then moved permanently to tauranga in 2006, couldnt handle the travel anymore as DH and I were both working over here. wow my mind clicked quite a few times reading your posts!!...

firstly - the AF thing - i "think" its trying to come! lol so that may be a point.

secondly her poos have been very hard!!!???[:s] [:s]

The first feed in the morning goes really well - we lie down for that but if i try lying down during the day to feed shel still squirm and arch!? [:(]

On the losec subject - iv actually stopped using it as of 2 days ago because i ran out and was going to get it when i went into town but she was actually waaaaayyyyyyyy less upset!!!???? no huge screaming matches etc??? .....still fussing at the breast tho!..unless shes tired and almost asleep then she feeds okish..

noiseybaby - i clicked about the dairy formula yesterday (duh! stupid baby brain!) and im going to refill Astins (second child with bad lactose intolerance) neocate prescription tommorow so might try that formula instead...am just worried that she will rather the neocate seen as it is VERY! different to normal formula and breastmilk! (smells like crap to me though!![xx(]).

Are you feedin her a lactose free formula?
If you have a fast let down try breastfeeding lying back a bit. My midwife recommended it to me when my wee one was the same and it helped. Also apparently garlic, soft drink and a few other things can cause them to have more wind. Maybe gripe water could help too.
We took her to a Craniosacral Therapist and it made a huge difference.

It sounds a lot like reflux behaviour to me too but she's medicated. I have my DD on slippery elm powder (she has reflux and is on losec) which I put 1/4 tsp in a little yoghurt and give it to her twice a day. I took her to a herbalist for something else and she suggested the slippery elm to heal her tummy. The herbalist said the reflux can cause scarring due to the acid coming up all the time. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference but Gabrielle's spilling has decreased so maybe it is working? Might be worth a try.

Also, round 4 months Gabrielle got really fussy for a while and screamed after only a couple of minutes of feeding. Like Kel I used to have to feed her sitting quietly in a darkened room and concentrate on relaxing (deep breath etc). I think I used to get stressed by the pulling off and screaming and somehow that affected things and made it worse (if that makes sense?) so I tried to make sure I relaxed when feeding.

Hmmm, if she fusses on the bottle as well, I'd say it's not the breastfeeding itself that's the problem, more the feeding in general. It does sound like reflux behaviour, but then as you say, she is well medicated. Has her Losec been increased as she gains weight? It may be that her dose needs upping.

Hugs, BaAsKa. I have a similar issue with Ruby, always have. LC, Plunket, even paeds reckon she'll just 'grow out of it' but it's still awful to deal with at each feed. I think I have a fast let down and she gets tired and/or indigestion. We've tried the meds too and nothing works, I just have to wind her and calm her down each time (I find the best position is a front hold with her facing out and held upright - winds her, calms her and helps digest.) Bottle not an option because she still won't take it!

Are there any tricks for a fast let down? It can take 10 days for dairy to clear your system.

Have you tried feeding her while lying in bed, lie down take a deep breathe have some time out from everything busy. I know when Cooper was fussy & everyone was "at me" I had to walk away & shut myself in my bedroom, lie on the bed & feed him, he was doing the back arching as well.

What are her poohs like? OMG! My DD started this at 6months.
I also went through everything to try to find a reason, but to no avail.
I had introduced DD to a bottle of EBM about once a fortnight from 2months old.
My advice would be if you want to continue breastfeeding then do not give her a bottle..
My DD is formula fed now =( but will happily take the breast at night. - ( Half asleep though )
I am so sad still, 3months on that she flat out refused the breast!!

My girl goes all anti boob and at that age would barely feed (like a minute or two at a time) for 3 days each month before AF arrived - DP jokes that she gets my PMT. I need some advice or answers.

Over the past few weeks Karma hasnt been feeding properly. At first i thought she could sense my stress (my mother just died) then i thought maybe she just prefered the formula then i though it was the drugs i was on for a tooth absess and now i dont know - am thinking it may be her colic or reflux playing up BUT she is on losec, gaviscon and infacol and still she is doing it!!


She will go on and feed for about a minute sometimes less sometimes more (but certainly not the usual half hour each side she use to do!!) then shel arch and scream...so i wind her etc and try again.......this will happen many times till i give in and give her formula where she will do the same thing but not as much.

I definately have enough milk and when she pulls off she has milk dribbling out of her mouth so no prob there...

HELP!! im at my witts end!!!
