Didn't agree with me and I ended up in Hospital with very major pains. so they took it out and I am not allowed to ever have one again. I like the idea of the one you get pt in your arm - can't remember the name of it- so might try that afterwards. Oh and although this is my 3rd but my husbands 1st he has actually agreed to get the snip - my change his mind when I get really serious about it :-)

The gyne advised that it is best put in after your period, so I don't know how that would work with just having a baby. I'm sure your midwife will know ask her next time she visits.

And I definitely won't qualify for subsidising because I had a really high iron level with this pregnancy & when I had them my periods were pretty light.
And I would still be worried about the device sticking in my c-section wound as they are the same shape as the usual IUDs.

Does anyone know if you have to wait until you get your period again if you don't get the IUD put in at 6 weeks?

Edited by toniellis

It will last for up to 5 years, you only have to have it checked 6 weeks after having it put in and then yearly checks until it comes out. The only down side to this is the price, $350 for the IUD and then on top of that is the cost to get it put in. It has to be put in by a gyno that has the right credentials as not everyone does. To get around the price you can be eligable for it for next to nothing if you have very low iron levels (and the testing can't be done while pregnant, don't know if breastfeeding counts) and then the only cost is the insertion. Ring your midwife and ask for some info in it or go to the website, (goggle Mirena and it will come up). Good luck thou.
