i have flown with a 6 week old and the same kid at 8 months old. 6 weeks was much preferable. Also toothburshes make fabulous toys for kids. Jake had no probs with the ears - I did though - bloody hurt

If, (by chance) DD is asleep for take of and landing- would you suggest I wake her to feed and to give dummy- to make sure she is sucking?

They check in the carseat .. they wont let you have it onboard if you havent purchased a seat for it to go into. (which is fair enough in my opinion)

Just watch - they will ONLY let you take the carseat on if there is room - we had a huge fight with Air NZ about this they were quite rude. You forgot to look at the part that referred to flying with children .. this is also from the Air NZ website

Infants are entitled to the same baggage allowance as the accompanying adult and they are also entitled to any additional allowances linked to the accompanying adult frequent flyer tier status. Infants cannot purchase excess baggage.

    * Separately bagged sports equipment counts as one piece
    * In addition to other allowances, baby strollers, car seats, and medical/life equipment are all free as well as a maximum of two wheel chairs
    * If travellers are on a domestic flight as part of an international ticket, then the international checked baggage allowance applies

I have never traveled with kids, but this is what I have found from the air NZ website...

• Bassinets are only available on international flights
• Infants are entitled to the same baggage allowance as the accompanying passenger, including car seats and strollers. Safety requirements mean that strollers must be stowed in the overhead lockers of the aircraft. If your stroller will not fit in an overhead locker, it will need to be checked-in with your other baggage. If the flight you are travelling on is full, airport staff may request that your stroller is checked-in.

So Im guessing since bubs is allowed the "same" allowance as you, its 1 piece up to 25KGs, so if you can find some way to pack the carseat and the stroller into a bag or tied together then it should be one piece...

I know some airlines provide bassinets but you will have to specifically request it. We are flying Emirates back to Auckland in December and have requested a bassinet then. Jackson also has his own bagage allowance but its only 10kg. Who are you flying with? Do you have a baggage allowance?
I assume the baby is sharing your seat. Are you one your own?

We just had to fly from Wellington to Christchurch suddenly last week.
We went with JetStar and had to pay extra for baggage. We had 20kg each although Maddi had none as she was sharing a seat. We took carseats and instead of a pram we took a sling. (We borrowed a bed)

The sling was very handy for carrying Maddi around the airport too as you would probably have to check your pushchair in.

As for tips on flying with her, Having them sucking on take off and landing really helps with their ears.

We flew Air NZ last week ..

She has the same luggage allowance that you do. You can take baby gear as an additional extra for free (pram, carseat, portacot etc etc).

Im pretty sure you need to purchase a seat for her if you want her to sit in the carseat on the plane.

We just sat both kids on our knees (and since they can only have four people in a row of three seats, we got the row to ourselves lol

I've recieved bad news and am flying up north tomorrow. DD (9 weeks) is coming with me. Can I have some tips on flying with her.

Also can someone confirm that what luggage i can take- stroller? car seat? etc

I know the answers to these can be found in here or online, I really dont have time to do a proper search so would appreciate some answes for those that knw them
