Wow i had been getting pissed with AVG for awhile now, but couldnt be bothered buying anything. Just d/l'd avast and it looks great. We started with avast, then went on to AVG but we didn't have much memory on the comp and the downloads were HUGE in comparison, and seemed to bugger up the comp all the time, so switched back to avast. I personally think Avast is a lot better. It rates pretty high up there for a free one.

Some people can use AVG with no problems. But I used to work at various ISP helpdesks and the amount of calls we got where it turned out AVG was the culprit was quite high.
If a customer was using it and having problems browsing or receiving email the first thing we would usually do is tell them to disable or uninstall it.

In that case it may also pay to get a new one. Avast is totally free and is really great. I use it and have never had any problems

Maybe try installing spybot too. They work well together, ie one will pick up something the other won't

Have you got a adware/spyware program installed?
If you don't I suggest you download ad aware or spybot as it sounds like you could have spyware on your comp.
