Hi Mel,

I have just had a VBAC but I have a bigger gap (22 months) that what you're planning

It seems to depend a lot on your MW. While I was pregnant mine told me that I would be closely monitored so I was well aware of this by the time I was in actual labour. From memory I was monitored throughout the entire labour (& on the bed). I was fine with this as I had no intention of going in the water (tried that with #1 & it wasn't for me). Once I got my epi I was more than happy to 'doze' on the bed.

It might pay to look at another MW if your one isn't entirely supportive of your choices...

Oh & just for the record, I conceived Blaire when Alex was 10 months old. Mel when I was in labour at NSH I spent ages in the shower and my MW strapped a portable wireless monitor thing to me that could go in the water no problem, so I don't think the continuous monitoring thing should be that big a deal

I still think you're very brave TTCing now

(ETA - just cos of the age gap, nothing to do with the VBAC!)

Im not to worried about the monitor... I am not staying straped to that thing, i will go made. Besides, with Jake it was reading my contractions at something like 40 whatever it is, less than the readings I was getting the day before when I wasnt in established labour!!!!

Don't be overly put off by being monitored, I was told at my OB appointment that I would strapped to the monitor as soon as I got there and would be unable to move, my mw said that was ridiculous and what actually happened was that I was monitored when I first arrived for about 40 mins (would have been 20 but I was dehydrated and his heart rate was racing so had to wait for that to sort itself out) then all the monitoring I had was my mw asking me if baby was still moving until the epi went in and then I was monitored but that was ok as I could get up and walk around etc once that was in anyway.
I saw an OB when I first arrived who signed the consent form for me to have an epi if I wanted, then said hello to the new one at shift change 4 hours later and let her know that I had requested the epi and was waiting for the aneasthetist and then didn't see her again until it was time to vontouse him outta there and if I hadn't had vontouse I wouldn't have seen her again.

I had a waterbirth VBA2Cs. I pretty much jumped in my bath about 1/2 an hour after my first contraction & the only time I got out was to transfer to the bigger birthing pool

I had a VBA2C 14 months after my second c-section. No complications at all. I am hoping if I get the Ok from the OB to labour in the water she will let me... She did say the uterine rupture was quite bad so i think she has that in her head. She will let me in the shower but wants me to be monitored a lot... she can wheel the bloody thing into the bathroom LOL.

Ive got my antenatal instructor finding out some info for me.

That's odd, I used the shower at the hospital (didn't help though) and I had talked to my mw about being in the water for labour (my mw doesn't do water births at all) and she said that would be ok. Once in labour I didn't want to go in the water though. Yeah they like to monitor you pretty closely so they dont like to do water births (even though the risk of rupture is miniscule)

Went and saw my mw yesterday to see how she felt about VBAC with close gap and she was cool but she did say no to a water birth. Unfortunately she has been present at scar rupture and she only does water births if there is absolutely no complications.. she sees a previous c-section as a complication....

Not sure how feel about this, in all other respects she will push for my VBAC, but she is not comfortable me even using the shower to labour

We started when Spencer was 7 months and my doc seemed to think that was perfectly ok. I think so long as your c/s was straight forward and you healed well there isn't a huge issue with it.

Its a start cuppatea Yup, we are casually TTC now so if I got pg this cycle there would be 15 months difference... thats only 3 months less than the recommended! Mine were pretty much 19 months apart to the day (well 2 days in it). VBAC went very well. My c/s was cos of a breech so I had never laboured before, start to finish was 14 hours, with 2 hours of pushing.

Just wondering if anyone has managed a VBAC with a small gap between pregnancies.

My gynae said I should really wait until Jake is at least 9 months before falling pg again so there is at least 18 months between births to improve my chances of VBAC.
