Just thought I'd say, seems like a beautiful funeral for Aisling. lots of people were reporting them, and it was virtually only one two of the boards - perhaps they deleted them. i hope so, necause they were really upsetting. - for ME, and I didn't even know the poor family.

I think the policemen involved dedicated themselves to finding her (alive ) and you could see the detective in charge, he was obviously crushed , I think he believed they would bring her home safe and sound to her parents .

I wish the media wouldn't try to stir things up by pointing fingers, I believe the police did all they could and you only had to see how chocked up they are as well to know that they are upset also. as I see it they looked in that drain on more then one occasion and I believe even the dad did too! so is he to blame to?

I was watching that and TV3 was saying that they didn't send camera's down but I have seen interviews saying they had sent cameras down. I agree Cuppatea - 3 news has been phrasing things really poorly and asking questions with obvious answers to sound sinister - I don't know what people can't accept that the police do the best they can given the situation. Imagine the toll on these police officers and the disappointment they must feel with such a sad outcome.

It's a heartbreaking situation, and everytime I watch stuff on the news I look at my little boy and I cry a bit. What her family must be going through. Such a tremendous tragedy.

I was pretty disappointed with 3 news, I don't think blaming the police at this point in time is useful in anyway whatsoever. Personally I think from how it was explained this morning they searched as much as you would expect them to and more, after all the drain was only open a tiny amount and it was much more likely for her to be somewhere else.

I really hope so too. Just the thought of the poor wee girl having to suffer keeps making my eyes well up. The thing with the 8-10 cm is that that poor cop will be trying to remember how wide open it was as I expect he didn't think to stop and measure it before pulling it aside to look down there, cos really who would. I also have seen Spencer squeeze himself through and into some ridiculous places so even though it seems too small who knows, kids can be pretty determined sometimes and water always seems to be something they are drawn to.

I am hoping it was just a tragic accident cos the alternative is so much worse.

I guess seeing as it was raining the night she went missing the death would have (hopefully) been swift, as in she wouldn't have been in there for days before passing away. That's what I'm choosing to believe anyway, the other option is just too sad to think about.

So many unanswered questions though - like how did she manage to get through a manhole cover that was 10cms ajar and about 20kgs in weight?

Why is there a witness report of her with that asian woman? - a woman that police say they have now identified but still can't find. And that they identified through profiling people who were acting suspiciously in the area.

You need to bear in mind that she was found 36 metres from the manhole and a metre-and-a-half underground.

so no matter how many people crawled in they would'nt of found her anyway. it was only becuase of the 'blockage' that they decided to search further into the manhole

RIP little one.

They decided to excavate as there was a blockage, so it prompted them to dig the drain up.  I guess they maybe knew that she was the blockage, after all other enquires came to nothing.  I am glad to hear that they did search the manhole and drain initially, and a few more times after that.  But she'd been swept down, or crawled down too deep.  I can't believe how quick it must've happened, being that the first officer to the scene did search that area and didn't see her, or hear her.  So she must've already drowned down there.

This is devastating news. So so sad for the family and I think the whole of NZ will feel their grief in some way.

I watched the press conference at 8am and they said that they initially searched the drain because a manhole cover was seen slightly ajar (as in 8 - 10 cm) but a search four/five times turned up nothing. They then used camera's to see up/down the drain and still saw nothing.

Then, last night they decided to excavate I guess to be absolutely positive that she was not there and that's when they found her.

I am so sad too. I dont think anyone put her there. Toddlers can move VERY fast. I just feel for that family and for the police who checked that drain. They must feel terrible that they didnt find her straight away. Ijust hope she died quickly.

I had a broken sleep too couldn't stop thinking about it as I when I went to bed they were still looking.

Part of me is glad that they can now rest and start the grieving process knowing what happened to her, rather than never finding her and always wondering if she was out there somewhere in the world and if she was being looked after.

Depends whether she was in the tank or the drain I guess. But I still maintain that getting from the front to the back of the property and into the system in that amount of time would be pretty hard.

The Mayor of Waitakere Bob Harvey has confirmed to the NZ Herald a body has been found near the Henderson property where two-year-old Aisling Symes went missing.

Earlier, neighbours reported a drainage crew inspecting a storm water line near the property with a camera.

A police camera crew has just entered the crimescene.

A senior crime officer was seen entering the area with a small box with nother policeman entered the area with an industrial flashlight.

Police and the fire service have been excavating at the back of the Henderson property with 3News reporting raw sewage spilling from the excavation site.

Firefighters have been working on the storm water drain since about 6pm on Pomaria Rd, a street connecting with Longburn Rd.

Officers continue to guard access points leading to the stream behind 7 Longburn Rd, the former home of Aisling's deceased grandparents.

The developments have seen a crowd of neighbours, children and other community members gather outside the property.

Dh and I were talking about it we watched her on close up and she was looking to the right and face completely hidden from the cameras but if were telling the truth you look to the left and hope she hasn't played NZ for a fool.

On the official FB group page they are saying they're checking the septic tank as there has been a sewage blockage and they're just checking it to make sure.

However the tents etc erected would suggest otherwise - I hope it is just a random blockage and not her.

you know, i think the worse part of all this, is that looking at a little girl who disappears, everyone of us thinks back to that time uor toddler went missing - just for a few seconds. and then reappears and your breathing returns to normal.

everyone of us knows that sudden feeling of panic and the i mense relief when it turns out they've fallen asleep in the shed, or locked themselves in the wardrobe - or in my son's case - returned by the police after escaping a LOCKED gate. I just remember the feeling of panic when jake went missing, that feeling of dread seeing Taine standing on the road, that panic the very first time they slept through the night.

Well the police were pretty satisfied that the sighting of her at the front on the street was genuine. Seems odd that she would have then toddled back past the house and into the back of the next door propertly and still not have been missed.

They said they'd scoured a 3km radius before upping the search last week, so there must have been something to prompt them to look on the adjoining property.

I just feel undescribably sad.
My heart goes out to her family.
