yup, cooks the nits and eggs

Another point, the eggs that have already hatched are the ones at the bottom of the hair ,like on the strands ,the freshly laid ones are at the top,(because hair grows , so the older dead ones grow out )so don't worry about kiling the hatched ones as much as the ones on top , the damage has already been done .

You could wash Caprece's hair with tea tree oil shampoo too, it'll work as a repellent.  Not sure how much to put in the shampoo though sorry, I have a store purchased one.

With tea tree oil do I just put a few drops into their shampoo or put quite a lot?

The annoying thing is that Jack still has quite badcradle cap so I can't tell the eggs from dry skin. Would it be worth spraying tea tree oil of something in his hair every day for a week or so to get all the ones that hatch? Yep, drive us crazy too - Maya's hair is so thick and curly it's a bloody nightmare! Like Kelly, I get her hair nice and clean then she goes back to school and bang, she's got them again. So now I just comb her hair out every Sunday night and treat as required. OMG these drive me nuts, the kids get them from school or preschool, I spend ages treating them and getting rid of them only for them to get them back cause others arent treating their kids hair. Pop along to your local Trade aid store, or health shop, and pick up some Neem shampoo (sometimes it comes as a bar), and use it to wash everybody's hair once you've taken care of the current infestation, it's a natural repellent. Tea tree works well too, but the smell of tea tree can be a bit "yuck" to the littlies.

You can send them as soon as they have been treated (even if you treat the morning that they go). We have had recurring nits here - which drives me insane as we have treated them numerous times and nit comb all the time and its obviously the same kids reinfecting others all the time. The most important thing is to treat 7 days after again to make sure you get any eggs thats may have hatched.

I HATE NITS!!!!! Most daycares will have a policy re when they can return, at my centre if we find them children are sent home and can return the next day if they've been treated.

An easy and cheap way to get the eggs off is to cover the hair in aqueous cream or conditioner, leave it on a few hours (Ive left mine over night sleeping with a shower cap on) then they slide off a lot easier.  I also agree with tea tree and straightning

Going with the hair straightner thing, if you blow dry their hair at night after washing it, that keeps them away. And tea tree oil is meant to be THE BEST!!! Mum bought round this oily stuff and then I combed as much out as I could. Will prob do it again in a few days and hopefully that works. Thankfully neither Caprece or I have them.

Im guessing preschool can't say don't come if I have treated them and chances are he got them from there.

Effing bane of my life, C gets them from school, I put tea tree oil in her hair and straighten it with my ghd , I treat it, she'll be nit free ....until she goes back to school .

I am not sure about daycare rules but I know that you can get tea tree oil shampoo and that helps keep them away. Also you can get all natural shmapoo stuff for killing them. Ew so I just found nits (well one and lots of eggs) in Jacks hair, does anyone know what the general rules are for kids having nits and attending preschool?

Anyone have any good tips for getting rid of them and keeping them away? I know this has been done heaps but the search function isn't working for me and I'm freaking out I have them too
