I had constant spotting on it. Put on weight, but only on my muffin roll pieces. 2 Years later I'm still having trouble loosing my muffin roll.. Think it was about 6kgs I put on... Other than that I'm really slim and nice shape... Stupid muffin rolls
(so ladies, DON'T judge someone who has muffin rolls, for all you know they could be doing HEAPS to try and get rid of it!!)

Other than that, was great not having to take a pill every day! I must have been unlucky as i had a constant period with SOMETIMES a week of not having it once a month. it was horrible, i got really tired had mood swings and put on weight and if i remember right had dizzy spells as well and it took ages to go back to normal after stopping it.

As far as i new the original IUD is free (dont know if you pay to have it put in though) and you can get funding so the merina one is free if you have a history of bad, heavy, painful periods. i was on depo when i was at high school for about a year think i was about 17, couldn't take the pill because of migraines (and being forgetful) and i also found i put on lots of weight with it. so much that i stopped getting the injections solely because of the weight gain.

i had an IUD (the copper one) for a while after DD was born but got pregnant with it. (lucky me to be the .1% or whatever it is lol). with the IUD i found i had more painful periods and heavier bleeding.

I got pregnant a year after my last injection, it does take a while. I got pregnant on my third cycle after being off it.

Not sure I can comment on weight gain too much, but I did gain 25kg on it over the period of a year, but had just kicked an eating disorder and had depression at the time.

I only had one jab of it as I had the worst mood swings on it - it turned me into a crazy lady and the effects even took a while to wear off.

I love my iud - never have to worry. I got the free one (multiload it is called!! ) and it cost $50 to get fitted at the family planning clinic. I didnt have any problems either and was on it for 7 years. I also had no issues with it, i was on it from when i was 15 (due to competative sport) for 9 years. same here, i was on it for 6 months and it took a good 2ish years to ovulate again!! then another 6 months to get preggas!!

I also had really bad depression from it

Summerlamb - There is only one implant available here in the back of nowhere, and to get that the trained doctor only comes up from wellington once a month. That's through the family planning centre here. None of the GP's do it yet. I looked into it because it really was my first choice.

So I'm guessing you can get IUD's when bf right?

If so, it's not $300 for the basic one, I'm getting a copper put in next week and its free for the actual IUD, but I have to pay $120 to have it put it.

The Mirena is about $400-500 (the one that has slow-releasing hormones as well).

I was on it for a couple of years a long time ago.
Was great not having to remember to take a pill all the time but I had issues with constant spotting when I was on it, and it also killed my sex drive. i was on it for 5 years only came off it cause i was getting too heavy and more at risk..but once off it realised it had screwed my moods a lot... having said that i had no period for 5 years so that was awesome:)

Hi ladies, I'm looking into getting the jab, and as I'm still BF my options are a bit limited - I suck at remembering to take pills on time, we can't afford the $300+ for the implant, so at this stage the Depo is it.
