OK, so we seem to have the first under-2 that would not be sedated. He was fantastic till they gave him the stuff and as it kicked it it really stressed him out. So we had two hours of screaming but no sleep. They managed to do a mini-echo (quick scan of the key parts) in between Daniel screaming and hitting and shoving the probe away. Agh dramas dramas. They probably would have got a better scan if they hadn't tried to sedate him Ah well, not their fault. Every other kid his age and weight was knocked out within 20 minutes so he's obviously just stubborn (guess who he got that from).

Emma, it will be interesting to see how Sienna goes. Yeah they can go a bit loopy and some can get a bit combative but the thing I've found is that they tend to come out of sedation the way they go in so if they are struggling then they'll be not so happy coming out, but if they're calm going in they'll be nice and calm coming out (of course there are exceptions). I'm thinking they'll probably give him Midazolam which lasts about an hour and he'll be just dopey through the whole thing so the best thing for you would be to keep him nice and calm and talk softly to him and he should be fine. It's on Weds so two more sleeps! One woman on TNN said sometimes they can go a bit loopy (eek - Daniel loopy he's full on enough as it is!). Yep Tastic - that's why they are sedating Sienna this time, coz they were fine when they were smaller, but now that they're older they get much more stressed and freak out.

Hmm sorry no sedation here, just generals for Jack. He's been pinned down though for catheter's, bloods, x-rays etc and personally I would go for sedation. Bugger that it's this week - Sienna is having another grommets op on 13 Nov and they're going to sedate her pre op to stop her getting so upset when they put her under so if it was after that I might be able to help! Not a general. They have to sedate him cos he's so mobile - last time he was on all 4s while they were trying to get the image and it was OK but not great quality. We need a really good quality image cos there are some potential new problems developing that need to be checked carefully. Wow, I didn't think they sedated for echos. My MIL does echos on babies for a living, and she said they normally just drink a bottle, or she wrestles with them! Maybe different in Auckland.

What kind of sedation is it? Jackson had a general for his endoscopy.
