He was fantastic till they gave him the stuff and as it kicked it it really stressed him out. So we had two hours of screaming but no sleep. They managed to do a mini-echo (quick scan of the key parts) in between Daniel screaming and hitting and shoving the probe away. Agh dramas dramas. They probably would have got a better scan if they hadn't tried to sedate him <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif" border="0"> Ah well, not their fault. Every other kid his age and weight was knocked out within 20 minutes so he's obviously just stubborn (guess who he got that from).<br /><br />Emma, it will be interesting to see how Sienna goes. They must use another drug for older ones (they said they don't bother sedating the over-2s in cardiac clinic cos they're too big and don't respond).]]>

I'm thinking they'll probably give him Midazolam which lasts about an hour and he'll be just dopey through the whole thing so the best thing for you would be to keep him nice and calm and talk softly to him and he should be fine. He's been pinned down though for catheter's, bloods, x-rays etc and personally I would go for sedation. I would think it would wear off well, kids come out generals pretty well so I would assume the same would go for sedation, it's more just to take the edge off.]]>

They have to sedate him cos he's so mobile - last time he was on all 4s while they were trying to get the image and it was OK but not great quality. We need a really good quality image cos there are some potential new problems developing that need to be checked carefully.  I think it might be given via drops??]]>

My MIL does echos on babies for a living, and she said they normally just drink a bottle, or she wrestles with them! Maybe different in Auckland.<br /><br />What kind of sedation is it? Jackson had a general for his endoscopy. He woke up pretty quick and was fine afterward aside from being a bit burpy. ]]>
