In all the books I have read babies don't develop sleep associations until about 4mths so you have a little while yet.

Ben is up for about an hour at a time at the moment. On waking I feed him one side, then nappy change then feed the other side. In between all of these he is often out down for a kick while I do something for Jack. So often his feed on the 2nd side is at about the 1hr mark. If he falls asleep at the breast then I put him down as leep. If he isn't asleep he either has another play if he isn't tired or if he is tired I put him in his cot. I pat his bottom/side and then leave the room, the radio is on low as he is at the other end of the hosue and I want him to be used to a bit of noise. Sometimes he , I suppose you would call it talks to himself. If he gets too grizzly or crys I go in pat/shush till he is asleep or settled depending.

Usually Ben falls asleep at the breast for his first nap of the day, during the night and almost every evening bedtime

We follow the Feed play sleep routine and it works reasonably well for the most part.

When Jackson wakes I change his nappy, feed him for approx 10 minutes, have a bit of talking for about 10 minutes then have another 10 minute feed.

After feeding we have play for about 20 - 30 minutes or until I start to see tired signs. Then I wrap him for bed in his cot in his room. When I put him down I stroke his head until he starts drifting then I leave him.

Most times he will go down without any noise but on the odd occasion he will have a little grizzle and when he does I leave him. at that age my girl would only go to sleep if she fell asleep feeding or on me - then all of a sudden at about 3 months she announed with quite the tanty one morning that she would not fall asleep for her morning nap while on me so i put her in her basinet awake (which would normally start a riot) and she prattled to herself until she went to sleep - she has self settled herself to sleep ever since!

Tell you what though, it was lovely in the evenings when she could actually be put to bed awake - all that walking and shushing was killing our backs and making me horse! I think at that age Cooper was only up around 45mins to an hour including feed time. After you do the nappy change you could offer the other boob if he's only taken one.

I remember getting in bad habits with my girl by feeding her to sleep, but I wasn't feeding her straight away on getting up. So I switched & it was all much better.

If you use the same techniques to put to bed each time these are settling cues. Ours was wrapping & then putting in bed & putting the music on. I'd walk away & then only go back in at 5 mins to resettle re put in dummy & then he was usually asleep after one to two of these goes. can you tell me what a typical day is for your young 2-3month old is

Do you feed them when they wake up AND/OR when they go down for a sleep

how do you put them to bed ... into bassinette/cot awake or asleep already ??

I am seeing some bad routines starting to form with my wee boy.. he is waking starving hungry..feeds half.. nappy change.. play etc.. 1 hour later its feed where he usually falls asleep on the breast and i place him into his cot.

I want to be able to put him into bed where he settles and falls asleep himself. when can i expect this to start happening or can i start trying now ?

what do you do if they fall asleep breastfeeding.. wake them or quietly put them to bed??
