Author: SaffronLady
Subject: 29501
Posted: 05 November 2009 at 12:46pm

Hi Dino1. I am also new to cloth nappies but always wanted to use them. We have hired a coth nappy kit from Kete Kope (you can find lots of kits for hire on the nappy network site).

We have heaps of nappies to try - all different brands, fabrics and styles. We were advised to use disposables for the first few weeks just to settle into actually having a baby before having to think about getting your head around nappies etc. And I'm glad we did as Mia didn't fit some disposables as she was too small for them (birth weight of 2900gms). The lady added some newborn size cloth nappies into the kit. All nappy sizes are different so best to find the best type, style and size for your bubs (which you won't know until your baby arrives).

I would really reccomend either hiring a kit or buying trial size only before making your mind up and buying heaps/spending lots.

I thought I would like pocket nappies best, but I am leaning towards the Snap in Ones or lay in type ones as you don't have to change the whole nappy outer everytime. Re-stuffing pocket nappies when they are wet is gross.

Ecobubs wool pocket (i dont use the pocket but lay in a pad instead) are really good for over night as Mia is sleeping 6-8 hours over night at the moment. Swaddlebees (snap or velcro) pockets again, are great. Karma Kidz (used to be Rosie's) velcro all in ones are great as well. We have an Itti Bitti Snap in One on at the moment so we'll see how it goes.

Washing them is really easy. The hire kit came with Code Wash Balls which you just throw in the washing machine and are a natural detergent. And breastfed poo doesn't smell and rinses off real easy.

Good Luck

Edited by SaffronLady
