Love/hate camp

Right now, I have a sick daughter whos been woken numerous times, and a poofy pup who's not a happy chap (typical poodle).
In the wrong hands they aren't cool.

But, I also have a pyrotechnic obsessed hubby with chemical based training and quals here and there, at degree and dip level. I'd like to see them banned and limited to public displays. I loved them when I was little - remember back when it was Guy Fawkes NIGHT and not GF MONTH? I'm all for them being limited to public displays - my cats are stressed out and hiding under the bed, and I'm stressing out that the baby's going to wake.

We're close to a park too - sounds like it's all go there tonight. Although in saying that, at least we've moved away from the neighbours who used to let off those hugely concussive bombs til 1 or 2am.

I am for banning them. There are too many idiots who ruin it for everyone else. Love/hate thing here too. I personally love them but hate how upset the animals get and all the fire damage they do. I wouldn't be disappointed if they got banned and just have the organised displays.

We will be getting some though and watching through the window while Dad lets them off. We have pets so don't do our own fireworks.
We can see the public display at Manfield from our house, when it eventually happens, gets postponed every year. We're just getting a $30 box (its part of DH's bday pressie every year) and will have some friends over on Sat night. We get them for about 2 months here as we live across from a park and the teens are always setting them off. I love looking out at the hills though and seeing everyone's displays over the weekend

These guys we used to hang out with when we were younger shot roman candles around one year - my friend got hit right on the back and singed my top. we have lived out here since feb this year and absolutely love it. we lived out at otaua for just over a year before that. I love fireworks but then at the same time I hate them too.
I have been at party's far too many times when one has fallen over and shot into the group of people (once even into a tent) Also many Years ago my dad blew up his fingers when letting one off. We wont be buying any ourselves.
I am also really worried about our local fireworks being held at the school across the road. As fun as it will be to sit on the fence and watch them, you get a lot of stupid teenager shooting them everywhere.

In saying all that I am really looking forward to going into Wellington to see them tonight (only because I am facepainting beforehand) And I do get really excited watching other people fireworks out the window.

I have no idea what we will be doing we do have some in fact shh don't tell but we still have a good supply of sky rockets Dh brought them up years ago before they were banned,

I have no problem with them at all as long as they are used responsbily just like guns etc. I have fond memories of making tunnels and blowing up cups in the vege garden with fire crackers dad did the ligthing from memory. Dh and i were just saying last night how quiet it has been in our neighbourhood this year maybe tonight will be noiserer but then the weather is supposed to turn yuck.

I love the idea of private parties but currently I'd be happy just to watch displays since we have a young family and spending money on them is basically just setting money on fire.

Also I think now days the fireworks you get for private use are pretty rubbish compared to what we used to get.

That being said we're having my mum and sis over tonight so they can let off the remainder of their last year's batch. Great night for it

Yes and in the morning we are going to yet another school fair. DP loves them, last one we went to he won 3 snappers and a crayfish.

Haha Lemongirl our partners would get on great. We still have a $200 box from last year and there is occasionally one that falls over but its always one of the weak ones that doesnt do a heck of a lot.

We won't be buying any or going to a display. When we were at Primary School there used to be a big night down at the school but since then Mum and Dad started buying less and less. Nah we wont buy any or go to a display because we live up on a hill out in the country and just across the water at a park they always do a huge fire works display so we just sit on our front lawn and watch it, and plus we have a view of Aucklnd city and the sky tower from where we live(we are in Auckland-Waiuku) and we can see all of the displays from there, its soo awesome, we get all these displays for free from home hehe
So we will take caden outside to see some, he was too little last year.

ETA-I think they should be banned aswell, they are so frikkin dangerous, I nearly got hit by a roman candle thingy cos my stupid friend thought it would be cool to wave the thing around!

Yep I am on the ban them band wagon as well. I think there should just be properly organised displays, they are far better than what anyone can do at home and the only thing that should go on sale to the public is sparklers (and even then I wouldn't be upset if they were banned as well).
It's not so much a problem with the kids, they sleep through it all, but it scares the crap out of my pets, no way I can explain to them what it is. i agree they are dangerous in the wrong hands but when handled properly they are alright.

one year when i was younger, probably about 10 years ago we had fireworks at my brothers house and one of them hadn't been put into the ground properly, it was a roman candle, it ended up falling over and shooting in all directions including into the house through an open window.
