I've used Clairol Nice & Easy since I can remember. I started going grey quite early too and found that was the best brand for me, usually cheaper than others too. LOL, the grey... don't get me started, I started going grey at 19, and I'm true salt and pepper now....

I usually use Garniea Nutriesse & never have a problem with fade or at least it's not noticeable. I used swartzkoft last time & with the first wash I noticed it faded. I reckon it's sucky. Wash your hair with baby shampoo (no conditioner) and let it fully dry before you dye your hair.

After you've dyed your hair - make sure you shampoo your hair as little as possible - once or twice a week. Oooh I was outside and had a look at the ends of my hair and its a definite black still so what I reckon is it just looks faded coz of the beginning of regrowth?! thanks guys.. hair was natural colour when I dyed first time (going from brown to black) and I ended up buying shampoo and conditioner in same brand as dye. Was your hair lightened before?? If so you'll probably need to put a semi-permanent colour through your hair first, and then a day or so later the permanent dye. I love Swarzkopf but I find as my hair grows the colour fades out all over. A hairdresser friend said it'll always fade abit as theexcess dye washes out.

I dyed my hair a while back with Swarzkopf color (permanent) and it doesn't seem to stick. It doesn't all come out but fades way to much for my liking. Anyone know why that would be? I have been through 3 cycles of redying and they have all done the same thing. If it is just a crap brand then can someone recommend one to me as I would love to have the color hair I want for 2 weddings at the end of the year and don't wanna have to redye inbetween.
