OMG so this morning our dog was barking on the OTHER side of the house at a cat I think and the problem neighbour threw a potato at our house!! Grrrr!!!! It hit our window so we've taken a photo of the window and the potato.

9am on a Monday morning is hardly a bad time for a dog to be barking. Fair enough if it was 7am on a Sunday morning!! Is it our problem that he doesn't work and probably gets to sleep in every morning??

And what if we had small kids playing outside at the time and the potato had hit them?! This cannot be good for my blood pressure

So I've rung the council and found out who the property manager is and am currently writing a letter. This is the last straw for me.

One of their dogs was whining for most of the aftternoon yesterday, so will document that. And also the foul language on Sat morning.
I think he must have a bit of an anger issue if he can't stand 30 seconds of barking which is all it was from our dog. And he hardly barks at all. I had neighbours that had loud music and parties and DP went over and asked them to turn it down they were happy with that. They also had massive domestics screaming and throwing things till all hours of the morning it got so bad I rung the police as I knew they had children, the police came and they denied it all but a notification would have been made we didnt have anymore domestics before we moved.

Thanks for all the advice! Yes we own our house which makes it even more frustrating. Some people have no respect for their neighbours or their property - their lawn and front yard is covered in toys, rubbish, you name it!

I might try and find out who the landlord is, hopefully it's a company looking after it and not someone privately. I'll find out about the dogs too, am pretty sure I haven't seen a tag on their collars and I'm not sure about our area, but the Waikato council requires you to apply to keep anymore than 2 dogs, so could get them on that too.

you are in a tough position, cause no matter what, they are your neighbors your cause trouble for them & they will do the same to you by the sounds of it.

If you can not go & talk to them about the problem then you need to find the landlord if there is one.

I take it you own your house, do you also share the drive way? If you do then you should be in a "body corp" (sp) as you all have to maintaine it, so you can get hold of the owner & tell them the tenants are causing problems.

If you rent...get out, find a nice place with no shared drive way

We have a little girl (3yo) who use to live next door with her mum (its a housing nz place which her uncle and grandmother live in) and she still visits regularly and OMG She screechs at the top of her lungs at her mum or nana day in, day out til her mum starts screaming back at her to f*** up, etc. Its so horrible!!!

I second PPs - track down the owners/managers and complain but make sure its confidential coz you don't want them setting their sights on you!! With the noise you basiclly have no rights under the noise control act unless it's between 10pm - 5am. BUT in saying that if they are renting it will be in the tenancy agreement that the must be good nieghbours - if you can find out who the landlord is, give them a ring and let them know about your problems.

With the dogs, ring the local council or pound and see if there are dogs registered at that address, if there isn't then the ranger will normally do a "sweep" of the street and pop in to chat with any houses where there are dogs that aren't on the list. You have to provide a current address for your dogs rego. Ok, so our neighbours I'm fairly sure are renting.
I've just had a peaceful Saturday morning disturbed with the husband having a couple of mates over and honestly every second word was the 'f' word. I had to come inside and shut the door it was so bad.

Neither of them work and so are home all day every day. They have about 3 or 4 kids and I'm fairly sure about 3 dogs (which one of them cries and cries when tied up). Their garage is right next to our outdoor area and they have the stereo up quite loud sometimes.

The father yells abuse at the kids and the other day the husband and wife had a pretty heated domestic where he was throwing things in the garage ( I hope not at her).

With me at home now and will be for probably the next year or so with a newborn, what are our rights? And has anyone else been in this situation and managed to do anything about it? I don't want my kids growing up listening to their language but don't want to be trapped inside over summer either! I'm hoping that because they're renting that they'll soon move on. Unfotunately I don't think the stereo noise is enough to call noise control??

Oh and he had the cheek to yell at OUR dog yesterday - our dog barks probably 2 to 3 times a day and it's usually at a car in the driveway or a cat on the fence.
