We find Curash powder amazing - put a bit on every nappy change as prevention, and more on if it's looking a bit red. Brilliant stuff. Milla gets this from time to time, just out of the blue, if its bumpy or broken skin, I use micreme without hydrocortisone, but if it its bright red and burny looking - mebo burn gel - its quite expensive but natural and so soothing. I used to buy it for my mums radio therpay burns its fab - little trick i learnt from years in pharmacy. Gosh babies put up with a lot dont they!? Imagine if we had burns on our bums! Ouchy!!! Poor things. I often think about this.... esp when Locks is super spewy.

I use about a tablespoon- for a shub (shower tub). you prob use a similar about for a big bath I guess.... Im not very scientific about it

Thanks ladies. It is a bit better today....just the "burnt" patches remaining, the overall redness has gone.

Did she eat anything different that day?? Perhaps got really hot in bed? just thoughts as to cause.

Highly reccomend plain old cornflour. Better still- Gaia Nappy Powder, which is cornflour and lavender (oil not perfume!!!) Lavender has fantastic healing properties.

Second the Baking soda idea too- we use it all the time in his bath, and the bowl of water we dip the wipes in to clean his bum. It neutralises the ammonia (what causes the rash- its basically a burn)

Keeping the area dry is very effective. When Jaye gets the angry raised nappy rash we use Daktozin. It's an antifungal nappy rash cream that dries out the rash. I also use a warm, soft facecloth for wiping and let his bum air dry before we put his cream and nappy on. You can get Daktozin from the pharmacy and I would swear by it. Good luck

baking soda in the bath water is good too, let her have a good soak and splash in it. not sure if you are doing cloth or not but if yes then make sure they arent retaining soap powder. oh and no wipes, just warm flannels (but you probably are already).

When Caden has this, we put Curash powder on first, then a thick layer of Sudocream and that worked well, cos the cream could stick to the powder and eventually soak throufh to his skin, and it usually healed the rash well.

We have the same problem with Ava's skin- it's so sudden and seems to take ages to clear up. Curash powder is really good and I also got a prescription for micreme from my GP when her nappy rash wouldn't clear up. I'm new to this nappy rash business as Elle never got it.

Within a space of about an hour yesterday Ashley went from perfect soft skin to red skin with weepy bits after she did a poo during her nap. They are normal colour but have no substance to them so they sink into the nappy like wees. I'm wondering if they are quite acidic.

Anyway, the worst bits won't cover with sudocream as they are quite raw. Is this just normal nappy rash?? Her entire bottom is bright red and it happened soooo quick!

Other than no soap, keeping it clean and dry, lots of no-nappy time and a good barrier cream, is there anything I can do to prevent this?
