Graydon (Gray for short)
Louis - pron Louie as per the French way (we decided against it because so many people would say Lewis)

ooh and Charlie could be short for Charlton or Carlton, hmmm I quite like that!

ETA although they don't go with our last name - nothing ending in an -on sound does - so I won't be using them

hmm .Mel I'm a bit like that, I'm having trouble working names with our last name as its got lots of consonants. Its a strong last name so the first name has to be short and flows easy together.

We are still fighting on boys names. We get one set then a week laster i don't like it. We have our girls name though.

Anyway.....on the topic. I was thinking teddy short for Edward but weegee beat me to it. LOl and I can imagine alot of teenage girls are naming there boys that at the moment.

IMO I prefer Charlie K rather than Louis or Lucas K. Naming your kids is such a hard thing to do right? You've got to think how they will carry the name when they are older etc.

I am quite fussy on names, I like ones you can shorten when they are little & they can sound so cute, but I make sure they have names that can grow with them, you never know what they will become when they are grown up.

i liked Lucas and Luke but not Louie with our name.. and Dh and I eventually decided on other names.. it's hard isnt it!!we also will probably have two redheads so that counted out Garrett which we loved(rhymes with carrot) and a few others:) interestingly i know heaps of Charlies and none have red hair:)

Louie and Lucas are already short names I guess you could have either, their both good names. You could do the calling test, Louie out loud sounds a lot like Harry would they get confused of use it as an excuse to ignore you.

Yeah Louis is the French way, Luis the Spanish... and Louie for the Americans who like it to look how it's said lol.

Archie short for Archer is gorgeous! Both are cool names. DH not keen on that one. I hope your next one is a boy so you can use it (huge congrats by the way!!).

I really like Charlie... but with our K last name it just reminds me too much of Charlie Chaplin. Tis such a redheaded boys name eh!

I like Teddy, short for Edward, but DH vetoed it.

Annoyed to hear Archie is becoming more common - that's on my shortlist for this one if we have another boy (short for Archer - in general I don't like naming kids after TV characters but I figure nobody will remember Private Practice in a few years)

Artie is cute too! (not a fan of Arthur though, same as I like Charlie but not Charles)

I am hearing you on the name thing being ateacher rules out so many names. I taught in a boys school and ended up with 2 boys so finding names was near impossible hence ours are not that common.

I love the name Lucas, and think it could easily be shortened to Louie. A lot of the time when they go by a shortened name you never know where the name actually came from.
Would Louie also end up being shortened to Lou...
(Keira gets called Lou all the time)

I really like Alfie at the moment! And Archie although that seems to be becoming really popular here amongst the English mums - so perhaps only a matter of time before it's that popular in NZ (if it's not already?)

Couldn't you have Louie with no "long" version? Just have that as his official name? Also you can pronounce Louis with the "ie" rather than the "is" IYGWIM.

What do you think about the name Lucas, with Louie for short?

I know Louie isn't an 'obvious' nickname for Lucas, but I love both those names... not really keen on Luke (short for Lucas) or Louis (pronounced with the s, 'long' for Louie lol).

At the moment we have Harrison, he gets called Harry.

Any other suggestions for boy names? Can't be too long cos he'll have 2 middle names (Elliott Te Whiwhi), and our last name begins with K.

We do quite like names that can be shortened, but that's not a prerequisite... but I've got this thing where I have to like both the long and the short version lol.   We like names that are easy to spell/pronounce, but not tooooo common.

Other names I quite like but we prob won't have for various reasons:
Zac (DH doesn't really like it)
Charlie
Alfie
Archie
