Liz, if you spend over $220ish and have a credit card, you can pay off over 3 months. But like Roksana said there is the 5% service fee.

OKay Aimee, for me the whole reason I can't get cloth nappies is mainly the inital outlay. I can afford my $15-$20 a week in disposbales, but can't afford that $200 or so for the start-up. Argh! I jsut typed a big reply then my computer jammed up.

1. I usually use 4 nappies during the day, plus one overnight. Depends how many times you normally change and how often you want to wash.

2. Whatever you use is going to leak at some stage, but it happens far less with FB. I had a few leaks at the start but that was because I hadnt done them up tight enough or didnt put enough inserts in. Another reason they can leak is if you get a build up of wshing powder on the fleece, basically makes it waterproof and wees just runs off it, but thats easy to fix with a hot wash and some baking soda!

3. FB are a pocket nappy - the nappy itself is made of an inner stay dry fleece layer and a waterproof outer. These make a pocket opening at the back where you stuff microfibre inserts, which are the absorbant part. You dont need to use liners as that is effectively what the inner fleece layer is.

There are 2 types of insert - a 3-layer insert, and a 2-layer booster. THis means you can use various combinations to get the right absorbancy without heaps of bulk.

During the day, I use 1 insert and 1 booster, overnight either 3 inserts or 2 inserts and a booster.

4. Yes, you wash and re-use both the inserts and the nappy each change. For use on an older baby (not a newborn) full-time, and washing daily I recommend getting:
- 6 nappies
- 7 inserts
- 6 boosters

So for every nappy you have an insert and a booster, plus an extra insert for overnight.

The main thing for us was the initial cash outlay. Maybe if you have a poster or something showing how much disposables cost per month (all different brands) and then the cost the Fuzzis work out to be, people can then "see" the savings.
But in saying that - we bought a heck of a lot more than we were orginally going to because hubby got a large tax pay out so we invested that cash (that we wouldn't have had anyways) into the nappies and still paid what we could afford.

Definitely get people to go to The Nappy Network website where they can read about people using them now and what probs they have had and how they have overcome them and also to compare the different washable nappy brands too - Fuzzis always came out on tops! Always good to see that they are as good as the salesperson says they are

I think also offering people anecdotes where there are a few failures, but failures that can be overcome is also a good way to get people to believe in you. As I've said before, I have had trouble with washables leaking, but found that it was powder build up in the first instance, and then that I just couldn't deal with them overnight. I still use fuzzis and am very happy with them. Would still do it over again as well.

Or/and - all you can do is get yourself out there and spread the word to start with. Trying to preach to the skeptics is very very hard. Then you can start organising evenings where people choose to come and learn more about them - much more receptive to the idea of washables!!! Keep on your quest Aimee. Maybe try telling them to come on here? With Toni on the job they'll be converted in no time!!

I don't know if you do it already, but as an alternative to full time use, try to promote washables just during the day to start with... maybe some will feel a bit more comfortable with that. It still cuts down heaps on the amount of $$ you spend on sposies and isn't a huge cost to accumulate a few nappies.

To be quite honest I am having heaps of trouble actually selling any nappies here in Dannevirke - there are LOTS of babies here too! I have been doing displays at antenatal class, postnatal morning tea at the hospital, plunket groups, coffee groups etc but it is so hard to change peoples misguided ideas on cloth nappies. I think they all think I'm making up what I say - never changing wet beds or clothes in the night, washing is no big problem etc. Even the money back guarantee trial nappies and the thousands of dollars they will save is not a big enough incentive... YAY the Fuzzis! I've got all of mine all ready for bubs

For anyone that is thinking of getting these but is a bit wary of the outlay, we researched into the cost of disposables v's Fuzzis and also looked at websites like the nappy network where you can talk to people who are actually using them about the pros and cons (and of course the ever helpful Aimee ) and we were happier paying out what we did in one go (newborn to 3 years) rather than paying out each week for disposables. It really does work out much cheaper doing it this way. As for the washing issue - with a newborn you'll probably be doing washing every day anyways.
