This is probably a bit boring, bonus bonds or stocks, you could add to it yearly. maybe a nice payout in18yrs for a car or an OE.

THanks for the ideas and for the link, GonnaBeAMum - cheers! Whiskey and wine are such lovely ideas - but I can just imagine him getting trollied on vintage drinks!! Maybe I'll save just one wine anyway, but do the tools I think. Hmmmm, now I have a bottle of 2006 Cremant bubbly... I wonder if that'll keep for Ella's 18th? off to do some Googling :o)

love the wine idea...i'm going to talk to DH about it tonight...I just hope he doesn't go out and get drunk on his 18th birthday on all of that vintage wine.

18 year old whiskey would be lovely. Tools are a great idea for a boy. My brother got Peter Rabbit Royal Doulton set when he was 1 he's still got them.

wine? DH put aside a dozen bottles from 2007 for Tom and will do the same for James (when the 09 wines are ready). Hi i started a thread on this a couple of weeks ago. there are some good ideas in there.

i think we are going to go with the tool box idea where you add a tool for each year. we will also get each tool engraved with the date and age that he was when he got it.

I can't believe I'm already pondering Reuben's first birthday! I'm after ideas for a gift or something lovely that I can add too each year. For my daughter Ella, I bought her a charm bracelet to give her when she's 18, and each year I get her a silver charm that represents something about her year, wrap it up, add a mushy letter to her, and I tuck it away for later. I can't think of a similar thing to do for a boy though!! The mushy letter I can do, but any ideas of a sentimental kind of gift I can put in with it? I don't think jewellery is quite his thing...
