Apart from being helped with getting baby in and out of crib i will be asking they leave me and DH to it. he was great at helping get my baby latched last time, the baby kept tucking his lip under and i couldnt see cos it was under my breast, so he would untuck it. i prefer not to have MWs or nurses help with that cos they make matters worse most of the time.

Sounds like a train station.........i wont have many visitors being from up the coast, and well as soon as i dont feel im getting enough rest im just gonna come home. rather be around all my home comforts anyway. I just hope i manage to avoid an infectiont this time.

    Author: Kirstine
Subject: 30079
Posted: 24 November 2009 at 12:17pm

I was just in there 2 weeks ago after having my little girl on the 11th November!
I was in there for 4 nights (as i got the awful neck/headache from the epi going in too far and punctured the dura)

I was first put into a double room but by myself, then someone was going to be put in with me but my midwife demanded I had a single room (which the majority are) - mainly because of my circumstances. I was in pod D and my room did not have a bath in it so not sure if that is normal but i'd say it would be. As far as I know there are only baths in the birthing suites. I was bed ridden and only had 1 1/2 showers while there. Nearly passed out having my first one so it was cut short!

There is no consistency with the midwives/nurses who look after you. Some of the midwifes are just fantastic - and some are quite useless. They all tell you conflicting info and you get really confused

They do come very promptly if you press your buzzer for help though.

The food wasn't too bad either - you get given a form with choices (choose from different cereals & toast for breakie, 2 lunch options and 3 dinner options)

Also take note of visiting hours - some midwives get cranky if you have visitors when you shouldn't (apart from partners ofcourse), and some don't care, esp if its someone helping you and easing their workload!

I was never pushed to leave (re headache) luckily my blood patch worked and I could get home!
I was hoping it was gonna be all good. I can transfer back up to Paraparaumu as soon as i can walk.......give me incentive to get those legs moving huh!!!

I had a very bad experience in Australia, so im trying to avoid that happening again, cos i want to be able to rest up properly instead of racing out of there too quickly.

She said if you can get transferred out to Kenepuru hospital or head home do so asap - can you go to Kenepuru to recover from your c-section Lou? I've heard its heaven out there!
