Author: Kelpa
Subject: 3022
Posted: 19 July 2006 at 1:21pm

With Paige I did not know I was pregnant until I was 9 weeks on. I had a full on job ..was out partying with all the reps..drinking and having a few joints here and there (yes not good but that was life then for a bit) and I was also training two hours a day for a triathalon. The reason I did a pregnancy test was because I fainted on a cycle I was doing.

My daughter is not only very tall and very active and smart. She is beautiful and has recently been labelled "gifted" at school.

Now I was not drinking copious amounts and it definitely was not every night. I did not stop drinking when I found out either. I had the ocassional drink here and there. Have not smoked anything since then tho!!!

I understand we need to do everything possible to have healthy babies but sometimes I think we need to go with our INSTINCTS and do a bit of research and learn from other people before living to the gospel and freaking out about stuff that probably will never happen!!!

In saying all the above...I have had a total of 1 and a half glasses of wine this time and thats it. But more because I went off it and not interested anymore!

I get a bit peeved off reading all the no-nos - I mean is it really going to kill baby if I have smoked salmon once in a while? Or eat takeaway chicken? My GP (who's quite sensible) said even alchohol is a "funny issue" - it's a no-no here but it's a fact in Europe mums drink the occasional glass of wine every few days and still have their bubs OK. Personally I think that as long as one is sensible about things, everything should work out, right?

And listeria isn't always fatal to bubs. So the risk statistically is pretty small. Although fro myself I am such a nutter that any risk is too great so I don't eat anything even slightly risky!

I agree with teh info overload thing tho - especially working for OHbaby! I wonder how many babies today die from listeria compared to 30 years ago?

I think its all well and good to say ohmy mum did this and I'm fine but what if you weren't? Thirty years ago if you had morning sickness you would've been given themidolide (sorry sp!) that caused loads of babies ot be born without arms and legs. So to say it was alright for my mum is kinda misleading IMHO anyway.

They tend to think what it does is creates very cautious people who doubt themselves and dont listen to their instincts and bodies...

Interesting!
