DS was 3 days overdue (but was apparently slightly overcooked as initial DD was nearly 3 weeks earlier), DD was 2 days early.

Mine were all random. I went into spontaneous labour with Maya at 38 weeks and she was born 10 days early.

The gremlins were induced at 36w5d, but I was already 4cm dilated when I arrived to be induced and the midwife said they would probably have arrived within the next 48 hours anyway. We expected them to be way earlier.

Lil miss I was induced at 39 weeks because I wanted her out. Again, I was sure she'd be early coz my cervix was ready from about 33 weeks but even on the morning of my induction the midwife said "this baby really isn't ready." My daughter was 3 weeks early, and she was 7 lbs 9, so very good size for being 'early'...which leads me to agree with what others have said, I think she was finished growing and all ready to be born! My son was 3 days late. My waters actually broke at 2 days over due but had to be induced as labour didn't progress. Then my daughter was 2 days early. Yep, i'm going with the range of dates theory. 40 weeks is an average, but some babies need more, and some less. So I'm due "in December" and thats what I've been telling people. It also means although I'm nearly 39 weeks, I'm really not feeling the pressure of baby being nearly due, cos I know s/he might stay put till after christmas so its not getting to me, you know? Wikipedia, not sure how accurate it is , but I like the part where it says to have a range of due dates rather than one specific day .

Caitlyn was due on the 31st of May , born on the 8th of June

Ty was due on the 21st of June and born on the 27th of June
...so both mine were late .

Sam was two days early, but he was an elective c-section for kneeling breech presentation. Up until my c-section I had absolutely no signs of labour, and because of the position he was in, I doubt labour would have started anyway.

This baby, well.   I'm nearly a week overdue and up until a few days ago I was getting my hopes up at every little cramp or sign, but I've given up worrying now and am just trying to enjoy my last few days of reasonably good sleep. Both mine were over due.

Caden my first was 12 days overdue when I went into labour, but wasn't born until 2 days later

as this is my first pregnancy I'm still on a huge learning curve, I'm very curious to  find out if first babies are likely to come early, on time or late? I realise babies come when they are good and ready, but I'm really curious to hear other peoples stories.
