We've had a couple of bouts of nappy rash, and I swear by bepanthen, paw paw ointment, and corn flour.

Also, a paed friend has mentioned you can get 'triple cream' for really severe nappy rash - can't remember exactly what goes in to it, but you need a dispensing pharmacist to mix it up for you.

Eek we just got a pile of itti's! Having said that, she had nappy rash before we started using them (a combination of homemade MCN's and snazzipants which we have been using for months) so I don't think they were the trigger.

Edmunds Cornflour...... cheap, natural, effective. and second the baking soda in bath water, and in the water when wiping/dabbing bum. Neutralises the acid (or is it alkaline... cant remember)

We also use Gaia nappy Powder- which is just cornflour with natural lavender. (not strong). just on the $ side.

but cleared L's nappy rash quick smart.

eden couldnt wear itti bittis, they just werent breathable enough for her and she would start getting red after only a short time in them.

We have a necklace here and while it seems to help with the teeth, it hasn't made a difference to her rash.

I'm eliminating any acid forming foods from her diet and will see if that makes a difference.

Jesika- sounds a lot like us. I didn't notice any aversion to dairy when she was fully bf but am thinking it might be a food allergy. i have also had success with the ecostore nappy balm on my girl - sudocreme didnt work with her either.

I think she is one of those babies that is going to suffer, I just need to find the right combination of creams. i remember the bad rash that hippy mamas first bub had too, have been crossing fingers tiny girl doesnt get it too...

do you use cloth or disposable nappies?

my suggestion is not to put anything in the bath when you bathe her except baking soda... that will help it ..

when eden has got bad nappy rash i use the ecostore nappy balm and that seems to clear it up. it seems to be tho that different babies react differently to stuff. but a good barrier cream might be what you need. also to make sure her bum is completely dry before putting any cream or nappy on.

also i too would suggest you get a doc to check it isnt anything else.

We have been using micreme but it hadn't cleared up so I stopped using it. I might try again as we haven't used it for a week or so.

She is boobie and bottle

We have been using a zinc cream and powder combination but haven't tried bepanthen or canestan yet so might give those a go. I just feel like a bad mum as it is so sore, red and inflamed and she cries everytime I go near her bum.

I thought we hd some nappy rash despite using Zinc and Castor oil cream on every nappy change. Turned out it was thrush - as mentioned before. It looks very much the same.

We used an antifungal cream (Canesten) and continued with the Zinc and Castor oil barrier cream.

With DD#1 we used the Zinc and Castor Oil and have been using it with DD#2. I swear by it. I don't know if you are boobie or bottle but if you are boobie trial dairy free for a week & see if that helps the rash ease.

If you are after some steroid free options I heard that egg white can be good. Just whisk it up a bit and paint it on. It should dry and form a barrier, I have personally never tried it, but anything is worth a shot. I use Pot of Gold, which you can buy online.

We had seven fairly miserable weeks of bad nappy rash early on, after Ruby reacted to some antibiotics. It disappeared at a snail's pace and we tried so many things. This is what worked:
- as much nappy off time as possible
- wiping with water and muslin cloths (no wipes)
- Sebamed as barrier cream (from pharmacy)
- Micreme as mentioned above (prescription)

The only tick that worked for us was a thick layer of Sudocream and then a thick layer of vaseline over top. The vaseline kept the Sudocream on DD's bum instead of just coming off on her nappy,

With my first DD we often had to deal with bouts of severe nappy rash right up until she was 18mos when it started to ease off, and then she TT'd over the summer that she turned 2yo.

We tried almost every single cream and powder out there but the ones that worked the best for us were Micreme (free on prescription but available OTC from any chemist) or alternatively Bepanthen First Aid.

could it be a fungal infection? With this humidity we've been having lately, it's perfect weather for it! Natalie had a rash recently that didn't clear up quickly (and she never really gets nappy rash), so I used some anti-fungal cream which cleared it up overnight. I know it's been discussed before but we have been dealing with severe nappy rash for AGES!

I am doing everything I can to try and minimise it (lots of nappy off time, in the sun when it comes out, cream and powder) but I am finding it never really goes away.

For those of you who have dealt with ongoing and painful nappy rash what worked for you? Are we destined to deal with this until she is TT?
