I controlled really well with diet he came 2 days late was a section but nothing to do with gd, he was 7p 9 so not massive and was never away from me in the hospital he also never lost any weight even though he was bf. it took a little while for his temp to stableis so there was lots of skin to skin contact but that is nice.

ate lots of fruit was just told to stay away from dried fruit and not to many very ripe bananas.

    Author: Chickaboo
Subject: 30542
Posted: 17 December 2009 at 6:18pm

This is my second pregnancy with GD so will try and answer your questions...

There is some possibility that I may have this and I have a few questions...

Does it automatically mean an induction? If so, roughly when?

NO - they are normally happy to let it go and see how baby is - as it doesn't always mean you will have a large baby if you control your levels (although more prone to having a large baby)
I am seeing my OB 2 days after my due date BUT its not cause of GD that they will not let me go over too much its a mixture of things but mainly cause i have had a previous ceasar (previous GD baby was breeched)

Is fruit safe to eat? Especially strawberries, watermelon, raspberries, cherries, plums, peaches and all the other summer goodies

This is something you will have to test - I can have a couple of strawberries and doesn't effect my levels. Although Plums, cherries, peaches and oranges I would say have more sugar in them.

Does it always go away with the birth?

Not always depends how well your body handles it and if it was always there just discovered during the routine GTT testing.
Mine did with last one and will see after I have this one - which i am picking it will as i get tested every year now for (bonus of having it is they monitor you closely to spot it early)

I'm planning on birthing at Pukekohe, does that change this?

With #1 GD baby they were happy for me to birth at our local birthing unit unti we discovered he was breeched - and now i have to be at a hospital (that does ceasars) just in case since last pregnancy was ceasar and scar ruptures or somthing like that.. but if I end up with a naturalbirth I can transfer asap.

Hope this helps - if you do search Gestational diabetes there will be a few threadson it if you want to get others experiences though.

Oh and every midwife/OB is different so what i just said isn't law and may not apply to you... also my GD pregnancies were not my first either so that might make a difference?!
