I have been having the mid cycle pain too - it was quite intense this month just gone.

I have had the same as you Marissa - just been soooo heavy but I do think it has settled down a bit. It is still heavy and lasts longer but not AS heavy as it was. Also love it being pain free - long may that last!! Mine is definitly inserted correctly as I had a moment of panic a while back (was a wee bit late) and went and got it checked as I couldn't feel the strings but all was good.

Yeah I went back 6 weeks post insertion and the doc said it looked all good. I had it fitted 10 weeks post partum but didn't get a period until 9 months after.

That mid cycle pain I got that after my first baby and have it again now. I had an scan to check for cysts just in case but doc said it's very common to get ovulation pain after having a baby. Mines quite uncomfy for a couple of days and sometimes I need pain relief but mostly I get by without. I have the copper coil (IUD) and my first few periods were insanely heavy and horrible but within a few months, maybe 4, they were quite heavy but not 'scared to leave the house' heavy like they were in the beginning and are back to only being 4 days or so instead of massive bleeding for 7 days. Hang in there and you might find an improvement, I still wear a super super tampon and a pad at the same time for the first day or two but after that its more manageable.

I get a nasty pain mid cycle now which I dont know if its related to having had a baby or the IUD, I'm assuming its an ovulation pain but a few panadol and I can carry on and its only for a day or two.

I can't take any pill either due to the hormones in them making me crazy, I haven't noticed anything like that having the Mirena in as it doesn't release into your blood stream like the other hormone contraception does.

My mirena doesn't seem to be doing the correct job for me as I have the last 3 months with bleeding every 3-4 days with 5-7 days in between and the pain OMG don't get me started feels like I am in labour again - so not what I am meant to have happen witht he Mirena in.

Good idea about the scan, thou I am sure mine is fitted correctly but wouldn't be a bad idea to get it checked.

One of my concerns about the hormones is how they are made, not just what they do to me. I can't take any of the pills either, for same sort of reasons as Phat Cat, plus they make me insanely moody/depressed.

I also have naturally really heavy/long periods, similar to what you described but very painful, which is why I opted to have a Mirena IUD (that and low iron levels) rather than a copper IUD. The hormones only act locally so don't affect mood, systemic circulation etc. and after 6ish months it reduces your bleeding which helps with iron levels.

not to alarm you but for those with problems try to get a scan to make sure its in properly I had mine in for 6 months & practically bled the whole entire time & quite heavyI kept going back to my GP & did took hormone tabs to try to get it to stop & finally got a scan & found that my IUD was inserted wrong it was in my cervix rather than my uterus.

I am like you cuppatea I cant take mini pill or depo as I constantly bleed cant take combo pill cause of blood clot history IUD was inserted wrong & had tow wait to cycles for everything to settle down before trying again hence to say I got pregnant.. lol am hoping to maybe get my tubes tied as DH is reluctant to get the snip...

Hmm was wondering if the problems I'm having might be due to IUD too. Mine isn't like yours though Marissa. I got the copper IUD put in early August. Ok I might leave it a couple more months and see what happens. Mine are also totally pain free which I am loving, this AF although heavy it wasn't as long as the other two so that's a bonus.

I have had the copper one for nearly a year. First 3-4 periods were super heavy and I nearly ran straight to FPC to get it removed, but I'm glad I waited as it calmed down.

My period is still heavier than pre-baby but it's manageable and no cramps which is heaven. I just have the standard one, I don't want to go near anything hormonal again for a multitude of reasons.

I will go see the doc, I don't really want it taken out cos then our contraceptive options will be back to no sex or condoms, but if it is causing this amount of bleeding it will have to come out before I become ridiculously anaemic.

i had a Mirena in and it stopped AF totally but i havent had any babies (yet!). oh and i had it in for about 3 years

Do you have a standard IUD or a Mirena???

I have a Mirena and I am starting to get this now and it is so annoying - to the point of I am going back to the gyne to get the baby making stuff taken out next year.

I have never had an IUD, but 3 kids later AF is certainly different, a lot heaver & longer.

I've had 3 AF's since having Kyle and all three have been really really heavy (soak through a super tampon and a pad in an hour, two days of it I am too scared to leave the house in case i have an accident). So I thought maybe it was things needing to calm down a bit. AF didn't return until 9 months after having Kyle, then it was 6-7 weeks till the next one and then this one has arrived after 4 weeks so cycle seems to be settling down, but I'm wondering if it could be the IUD causing issues. I know that heavier periods can be a side effect of having an IUD but this seems like too much.

Wondering what other's have experienced when they've had an IUD fitted straight after having a baby.
