give phenergan a try anyway, it is safe during pregnancy, and really is the best type for reactions. I haven't found antihistamines to be much help to be honest, I've tried loratidine and it didn't even take the edge off
I think I'm just going to have to grin and bear it! Only 14 more weeks.... never mind. Sorry I can't offer a lot of help and I really feel for you - it sounds awful.

I can however, second the idea of an oral antihistemine. My DD (now 2) has had Dermatitis and skin conditions since birth which progressively got worse until she was red and itching all over constantly, day and night until she would bleed. We took her to and from a number of docs and tried all kinds of creams and potions. In the end, she was recently prescribed Lorapaed which is a mild antihistemine oral medicine and she has completely cleared up. She doesn't itch at all anymore, and we don't use any creams at all to assist either - its been our miracle cure. Oh and its non-drowsy too and tastes like sweet peaches

Because it is so mild, even suitable for very young children, it might be something you can take while pregnant(?). Could be worth asking your local pharmacy about as it looks like you might not need a prescription for it.

I had this! I thought we had fleas and was about to get the house fumigated!

You need Phenergan (sp?) it's an anithistamine of all things that my ob prescribed and it sorted me out almost immediately. The other great thing about it is it makes you drowsy so if you take it at night time it can cure the late pregnancy insomnia.

Calamine was great too, but I had to apply it about every 15 mins. I will definitely go out and buy the aveeno stuff, because for me the pinetarsol is doing nothing but making me smell bad!
Calamine helps a bit, but as soon as it dries the itching starts again. I've just ordered some stuff from the US from rainier soapworks, its soap and cream specifically designed for PUPPP so I'm hoping it works!

I had it too from approx 18 weeks and then it would go and come back even worse than before. I too had it on my hands, fingers, feet, toes it was hideous. I ended up using no soap but that QV stuff you can get from the chemist and Aveeno Skin Relief shower & bath oil, this stuff was my sanity saver it really did help with the itching and I used the Aveeno moisturiser too. When it came to my feet which I found were the worst at night, I would have a bucket of cold water and pinetarsol and the Aveeno oil made up before I went to bed and if they got really bad I would get up and soak my feet in the middle of the night.

I did find it came and went and then I had it for a week or 2 after DD was born but no where near as bad.

I must say the one good thing about it is I got no stretch marks, and I think that is because I used the moisturiser and oil everyday twice a day without fail.

Hopefully you can find something that helps.

I had the same with this pregnancy and at about the same time as you as well. It was really intense for me for about 6 weeks and then disappeared for a week or two, then came back, then went again, and then came back again about 4 weeks ago but its less intense now. Its still so hard to sleep and to keep my hands off my skin but I just try to distract myself. Im really hoping baby comes early, hopefully next week, I cant wait to not itch anymore!

Mmhmm, been there, done that and it was HELL.

Pinetarsol didn't work for me. Hydrocortisone cream worked somewhat. I ended up using calamine and putting it on every two hours 24/7 - not good for my sanity and I smelt naaasty. Aveeno moisturiser (with oats) was good as well.

I feel your pain - it's absolutely horrible and till you've had it, you don't know how bad it is. I was scratching till I was bleeding constantly and there was no way I could stop. it was like that at first, but soooooooo itchy you want to take your own skin off!!! After a while the little spots join together to make these big horrible plaques that itch even more. sigh

Hi, I feel for you! When I was pregnant in my 2nd trimester I got a condition called Vulvodynia which is burning/throbbing of the vulva area. I had many, many visits to the Day Clinic before I got a diagnosis and I can tell you I was almost beside myself and so too the poor hospital doctors and my midwife as noboby had ever presented to any of them before for this.

Not sure if any of these things that I tried will help but you never know ...

Cream (mild steroid cream - under advice of your doctor/chemist)

Pineatarsol moisturing soap (or gel) for inflammed skin - have you stopped using normal soaps/body washes as they could make the itching worse?
Pineatarsol can be brought at the chemist - the smell is horrible but it might work.

Cold flannels - total bliss on irritated skin. I used to put a couple in the fridge. I used to find that the area would calm down with the coldness and it would numb it slightly.

Cooler showers as the warmer temps may make the itching worse.

Unfortunately I had to take a very low dose tricyclic antidepressant to abate the pain which is apparently one of the things that they treat VD with! Within a few weeks of the treatment as suddenly as the VD started it went! and the treatment didn't affect bubs at all.

Does you MW or GP have any suggestions? Or can you go to the hospital Day Clinic for help?

Hi ladies

I'm just over 24 weeks, and about 3 weeks ago I developed PUPPP (Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy).
For anyone who doesn't know, this is a ridiculously itchy rash that spreads across the abdomen, thighs, breasts and buttocks. And very unusually (though it has in my case) the hands and feet as well. It usually comes on in the 3rd trimester, but I guess I'm just unlucky!!

Has anyone else had this, or going through it now? It's the most uncomfortable things I've ever endured!! I honestly itch like crazy 24 hours a day, and can't sleep for constant itchiness! None of the usual pregnancy itch relief works, so wondering if any of you lovelies have any experience xxx
