But he is lactose intolerant. Here is a list of things of hand. As there is no allergy I only eliminated things that contained dairy, but if it was made in a factory that had dairy so traces might be found etc I still eat those.

vanilla soy milk (so yum on porridge or in coffee)
olivani spread
pams choc chips
corn cruskits
weight watchers salt and vinegar or plain chips

Gosh at this late hour thats all I can think of!

I eat nuts and fruit as snacks, make my own sauces for meals... I even substitute aoili on my home made pizza instead of cheese YUMMO
We've gone additive & preservative free as well so that rules out anything in the cold shelf at the supermarket.

I have opted not to use soy as some dairy reactors also react to soy, dunno why but just do, so we use rice milk in everything!

If you still want mac & cheese, just make a white sauce & instead of adding cheese add in one teaspoon of salt & voila cheese tasting white sauce I love cheesy creamy stuff & this has made my week discovering this.

If you have melted butter in a recipe just substitute the same amount of oil for butter.

I just made a chocy cake today ( on page 545 or 6 in the Jan 2009 thread) It's yum

Plus, like the others have said, it is really easy to use in baking and cooking instead of normal milk.

there's a fantastic chocolate cake recipe i used a lot that is dairy free - pm me if you want it, it was a hit with everyone i know! Sophie someone (the destitute cook i think she's called) has some good recipies where she gives you alternatives if you are dairy or gluten free.

You could always start of with the flavoured ones - like chocolate or vanilla to get used to the taste.

The hardest part with milk is what its added to, a lot of flavourings have milk in them and so do some breads. Soy ice cream is also ok, I never got on with the milk but then I didn't stick at it long enough.
All our meals were already modified for Spencer, we basically just eat meat and veges and I use rice milk in baking.

Green tea I find tastes nicer with out milk than normal tea, and coffee I just had to drink when out as I can't stand it black.

I also have not gone back to eating as much dairy as I use to, I pretty much no longer eat yoghurt or cheese even though Kyle no longer reacts to it.

Oh and breakfast I have porridge made with water instead of milk, it doesn't really taste any different and it's good for boosting milk supply too.

And like everyone else has said...Olivani or Olivite instead of butter/marg etc. I'm more lactose free, than dairy free so I use lactose free milk rather than soy (I don't like the taste, except in my soy hot choc from a cafe!!). Haha you're lucky you dont have to drop gluten too, that really sucks!

I know that people find soy milk tastes gross, but you do get used to it - I prefer it now. Its easy to use in cooking etc too. What to eat - lots of fruit & veges, for snacks - hummus on crackers, dinner veges & meat etc. The only thing I have trouble avoiding is chocolate - but my guts reaction is a good reminder of why I can't have it! and the dark chocs are pretty good.
