Yeah our playcentre can be hired out so ring your local one and ask how much. you will probabaly find it hard to get a child friendly place that allows alcohol! or vice versa.

try some of your local playgroups. We have used one near us (Wellington, sorry so not much help) but we hired the venue and all the facilities that it came with for the Saturday morning. It cots $35 and all we had to do was make sure we tidied up at the end. They had heaps of big toys, an outside play area and a kitchen. Not a bad deal.

ETA: just re-read your post and saw the last bit - so maybe my idea would be better for next year

Where abouts out west are you. The community hall up the road from me hires out for $80. Depends what you've got planned and how many people I guess.
