Author: lizzle
Subject: 3111
Posted: 13 July 2006 at 9:32pm

My nana made rusks - bread with butter on it, sprinkled with onion soup mix - taste great- but really really high in salt.
As for chunky food, at six months jake had six teeth i think which made those chunks easier. for gummy babies (like Taine), purees are probably best.

Oh and for indoor activities - we play soccer in the lounge. jake loves rolling the ball too. He loves playdough (which I make - the recipe on this iste is cool). Jake is older than Zac, but he "helps" me bake. we made biscuits a few days ago, but I put the plate too low, and Jake ate them all. By ate I mean chewed on a few and left them out to go sofggy in his tent. I';ve also just started making him forts and cars from big cardboard boxes. if you want to get really crafty you can paint them up, if not, you can cut them witha acraft knife. I put a door at one end and another door at the other. jake usually crawls in and I have to ask "where is Jake?, I can't find him" and then he pops out yelling "TA DA!". We do lots of drawing (great pressies for those rellies overseas), playing in the bath....oh, and even some kiddie websites. We hgad a post on it a while ago. the
www.nickjr.com is good

Just want to make sure that it's not too much food for Zac to have meat and vegies for lunch and dinner or should I just give him vegies for lunch???

Aimee we bought some vegemite back with us and gave that to Zac on white bread and he had a reaction to it - bright red marks all round his mouth area. I love those Chicken Crimpys - lived on those while I was pregnant - none of those over here unfortunately!

Linda - I can't find any custard for babies over here. I have to read all the ingredients as sugar is put into everything over here. I think I will have to go to Bahrain to go shopping as they have lots of organic food for babies over there. Crazy that I have to go to another country to buy food for my baby! - luckily it is just over the bridge.

Thanks for your help ladies.

I just used to plonk it on her high chair tray and she'd go for it!

Here's a recipe I often used to go for - (May be getting very off topic here but oh well...)
Oaty Vegetable Puree
2Tbsp Porridge
1 small leek (finely chopped)
2Tbsp canned sweetcorn (drained and rinsed)
1 medium tomato (skinned, seeded and chopped)
small knob of unsalted butter or marg

Put oats in pot, cover with half water and half milk and bring to the boil. I found the 6 month food had much too big chunks for Han to deal with at that age. Maybe mashing them a little further? Good on you for persevering (as they really do need to work through the gag reflex) but I think an intermediate step is needed between the 4 and 6 month packaged food. (Useless baby food companies!) In some cases I found the 9 month food a better size than the 6 month?!?!

Kim... Start trying Zac with some toast at lunch or something??? I'll go track down my baby food book for some ideas for around his age. I know I struggled a little to get inspiration!!

Tried him on some 6 month plus foods that are not as pureed but he choked on it and made him sick (big mess because his milk also came up). I've also tried giving him strips of toast to eat but he is also choking on that but at least it entertains him! I keep trying the 6mt plus foods so hopefully he will learn to start taking it. Can't wait till I can give him yoghurt which is from 8 months plus.

So lunchtime for Alex is really milk followed by Apple Custard or something similar. We both work so Alex is in Creche so like to keep it simple. Toast sticks are also good for entertaining him. He hasn't quite figured out that its food though.
