Think cushion material, thick duvet material, thick calico or linen. You need it to be pretty solid cos toddlers move around a lot and you need them to be secure

How much did it cost you to make (if you don't mind me asking?) I'm a little confused by the woven vs stretch wrap - is it the same thing, just diff fabric? Or is there something else about it that makes it diff? 'Scuse my ignorance sorry :P

Ta, really helps to hear your perspectives!

I used to use a moby but when I made the woven wrap I saw how much easier it was to use for the back wrap.
In saying that I use my moby to carry the little girl on I look after on my front as I find for a front hold then the stretch makes it easier.
I would definately make your own wrap, it super easy and super cheap.
Check out the babywearing thread in the photo section and you can see my home made one. I think its on page 5.

A home made one would do the job just fine, and be suitable for front carrying a newbie.

I have a couple of woven wraps (Storchenwiege ones that I was lucky to get second hand!) but at the moment am finding it quicker to use my mei tai for back carries, though my littlest girl is only 6mo and I'm planning to get a bit more practice in with the wraps.

My biggest problem is that she has decided she doesn't want to go in it and spends the whole time trying to climb out . I tend to use a hip carry most often these days as she is walking, so I can easily pop her in and out.

I used it a lot when she was tiny tho - I had twin 20-mth olds so I'd put them in the buggy and carry her in the wrap. She loved it, would sleep in it really well and I loved that she could face out (from about 3 mths) to see the world, but if she needed to sleep, I could flip her over and face her inwards and tuck her head in so she was secure and snuggled. I used to tuck her little comfort blanky in the Moby with her when she was sleeping too.

You've got a woven wrap for a lot less than you would buy one for. (And you can do that for a stretch as well).

No, I don't think it would be redundant - I'm re-exploring back carrying with my 18 monther though don't think I will keep going down that line cos of shoulder/back pain.

    Author: kmarie
Subject: 31127
Posted: 24 January 2010 at 4:29pm

Hi ladies,

I know this might come across as a product review but I was keen to get opinions from parents of 1 or more who have had & used one, thus the post on here :)

I have a nearly 16mth old (light for her age) & a bubs on the way in May. We're looking at purchasing a carrier that will enable either DH or I to put Bethany on our back, as well as being comfortable for other holds. An ergo has been recommended, and they look fab, but I'm not sure if our budget can stretch that far :S

That brings me to my question - does anyone think a moby wrap would be redundant at this stage? I like the fact that it would firmly attach Bethany to my back etc. if I wanted, as well as be perfect for a newborn in a way that would make me totally handsfree to chase an active toddler. I've found one, pretty much new, that's going for around $50. Would it work for hikes etc. if we decided to do that? Or is there another option we haven't thought of?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts! :-)
