Maddi usually asks to go to the toilet at a nappy change or if Keira is going. When she asks I will always take her and I put her on, she can't get herself off either so thats one way of getting her to stay We haven't yet had anything from her but its all good practice.

I did pretty much the same with Keira until she figured out how to climb on herself. It always involved her taking her pants right off and then not being able to put them back on. When she got a bit bigger we taught her how to pull her pants to her ankles and slide onto the regular seat.

We decided that we would just give it a go as we have had a hell of a time with Amy and thought that if Sophie was out of nappies then we might get Amy dry too .

As Sophie had not noticed wees we got a potty for the lounge for the firs week and rolled up the rug (thank god for wooden floors) and put on the undies. She got it within a couple of days. Even with a broken arm on day 6 she still wanted potty and undies.

We have the potty next to the toilet at the moment and next week we will start using the toilet more and potty less. We have a seat that sits on top of the main seat and it has handles. Also very important is a little step. I think we got the seat from Baby Factory but I am not sure.

Good luck

(We're only at sitting on the toilet, and pushing paper down stage).
I've no idea where to get it in Auckland however.

The most important thing for inserts is to make sure it fits your toilet. The initial one I bought was too small and it moved when they sat on it and wouldn't touch the toilet again for months!

Also a friend if mine has a toilet seat which has a toddler 'layer'. She highly recommends it and if I wasn't in a rental house I probably would have bought it. They can get bought at Mitre 10 Mega.

Spencer is terrified of the loo, even with his little padded seat, so we are using a potty for now. We are only TTing at home at the mo cos too many accidents for out and about but I guess until he is no longer scared of toilets the potty will have to come out with us.
