Mum suffered a huge heart attack yesterday. Things aren't that good with her and we have just had a family conference (me via speaker phone) with her Doctor.

Her condition is stable, which is good. She is still in an induced coma and on a ventilator. They had been keeping her cold to try and lower her temperature and heart rate, and as of this afternoon, they are beginning to warm her up again, with the view to lowering the dose of sedative and waking her up to assess the damage. When she wakes, they will take her off the ventilator to see if she can breathe on her own. Her heart had stopped beating for about 5 minutes so they aren't sure of the damage and the Dr has told us to expect the worst, but pray for the best. Basically the longer she takes to wake up, the worse the prognosis is. He has given it a period of 12 hours that she should be awake in. Because she is in such bad shape, her chances aren't as good as they would be if she was a fit healthy 30 year old, or even a fit healthy 58 year old. So, if you are that way inclined, tomorrow we will need all the prayers we can get.
The Doc seems to think that the infection (in her leg) may have become too much for her heart, but they can't confirm that at this stage. Her due date for amputation is 12th of feb, but at this stage, it is on the back burner. Whatever happens, if she pulls through she will be in hospital for a long time.

Not sure if/when We will go to invercargill, it will depend on the next few days.
