Ouch that would have to hurt. DH was 11 lb 4 and I was 9 lb 15 and 1/2 so more or less 10lb so people are still telling Andrew should have been bigger. Andrew was still in 0000 clothes at 3 months it was so cute. Josiah is little, though... He's been bang on the 3% line (on the WellChild graph) for length and weight his whole life, compared to his big sister who is right on the 50% line!

Kiya was 7lb 13, and I had quite a few 0000 things for her, which fitted her well, as did the cute 000 outfits I put on top (and rolled the sleeves/legs up).

Josiah was 7lb, although we (midwife included) expected him to be a little bigger. We had lots of 0000 stuff, but they were too big! He lived in a couple of Bonds Gro-suits and one or two premmy-sized things until he was big enough to wear the 0000 stuff at about 3 months old. Cos I was told I was having a big baby I only brought 2 0000 pieces. Lets just say when we left the hospital DH brought up a storm buying 7 0000 outfits as Andrew didn't have any clothes. My theory with the nappy thing is that they grow too damn fast to justify the cost.

It sounds like you have small babies generally, so I'd still go with the 0000. (Then at least you can reuse most of Xanthe's stuff!) x was supposed to be about 7, 71/2 lbs and was 5lb 15oz. so am reasonably glad they got that wrong.
i have heard that bigger babies are easier to push out, as you have gravity working with you too, once they start they go whoosh - of course, not having had a big baby, i couldnt comment on whether that is true or not.

If second time round is going to be faster then I have to get myself to the hospital at the first sign of a contraction. Oh but on a serious note, low birthweight babies have a higher incidence of obesity in later life than higher birthweight babies. Apparently to do with the way their metabolism works in the womb. I don't fully understand it, but Maya's specialist told me that when she was sick and losing weight all the time, and I have since heard it a few other times as well.

I was told throughout my pregnancy with Andrwe that I was going to have a big baby, at least 10lbs. He came out at 39 weeks and 8 lb 4 ounces. Toni - I went to visit Jax yesterday and the woman in the bed opposite her had an 11 pounder. I would say my 9lber was hard to push out although also depends on the woman whose giving birth and their birth canal, I don't think too much matter on the size of the woman (big or small, fat or skinny) I think its to do with the insides. Josh got stuck on my pelvic bone so there was that much room there so thats why he took longer as he kept being pushed back in. I just think he made room for my 8lber 2nd one (a daughter). Yep you guys are right - they can be up to a pound/500g out either way at full term. My 36 week growth scan with Maya estimated her at 7lb9oz and she was born 2 weeks later at 9lb1oz so she either grew heaps very quickly, or they were wrong.

I get a growth estimate for the twins at every scan, they plot them on a growth chart, atm they are around 650g each (it's give or take 100g at this stage)which puts them between the 40th and 80th percentiles which is awesome for twins.

Hi Toni, I had a 40 week scan with my first baby and they told me he was going to be 7lb 11oz, he was 9lb 1oz. When I had my 20 week scan this time, the guy told me I was going to have a huge baby. It really stressed me out because you worry about pushing a massive head out. My midwife said they can get it wrong and baby could be a lot smaller or bigger. Your baby might just have a bigish head but not weigh heaps. OH gawd!!!!! Looks like I'm gonna have me a HUUUGE baby! At the scan they measured the head, tummy and femur and gave me a growth chart that was written in Greek for all I know LOL

My son was 9lb 5oz. he was very hard to push out
(2 1/2 hours pushing) He got very sick as he had a bruise on his head being stuck against my pelvic bone in the birth canel (poor thing) and had to get phototherphy for jandice - very close to blood transfustion. He was not easy to push out nor did he sleep all that good although he was and still is at 13 a good eaters - oh and hes 6 ft tall now (just turned 13 not even at high school till next year yikes). I didn't get him easimated to see what size he would be though. i had a scan at 38wks to check if jack was breech, which he was. they estimated him to be about 6lb and he was born at 39wks weighing 5lb 12oz.
seems that they are quite accurate, sorry....hmmmmm 9lb 12oz

Yeah I was in the same position at 39wks 4days, (had a scan thinking baby was breech) and was told that give or take 500g, bubs was estimated 7lb 11oz (3.4kgs). Won't have to wait too much longer to find out, but last week the doc told me we should expect a 4-4.5kg'er. I had a scan with kobe 5 days before I had him and they said he would be 7lb 4oz and he was 7lb 2oz and with Addison I had a scan on the monday they said she would be 8lb 5oz and she was born the Thursday at 8lb 7oz. Easier to give birth to a 9lber??? Never heard that one! (Not to say it isn't true of course ) I suppose mine would have been relatively easy had she not been coming down with the corner of her head leading. (Yay for lopsided cone head baby!)

Anyway... I had a growth scan at 40 weeks (ish) to check that my babe was growing properly as fundal height was measuring way low. They estimated 9lbs then (yep - definitely growing alright!!) and she was born a week and a half later at 9lbs 6oz. So they must have been pretty close.

Apparently they can be up to a pound out... (is that 500g?) so here's hoping they measured on the high side! Good growing tho

oh really. I got a scan on the 18th and Ill be be about 33 weeks to check on low lying placenta. Hope they can tell weight of mine. I personally hope my baby is about 9pound cos then he will look healthier and cuter being a little chubby. I have also heard it is  a bit easier to give birth to cos they are not so floppy. DOnt know how true, its just what I heard.

This is just hearsay but i heard they could be out by up to 500 grams - but I guess that doesnt make your bubs taht much smaller does it? Hi ladies
Just wondering how many people had late preggy scans and were told what the baby COULD weigh and how close was this to the actual birth weight?
