well I don't know what I did but she has completely down and am currently a walking time bomb - midwife's words not mine lol
Im greater then 5cm dilated, cervix at the front and fully effaced the midwife said if she could break my waters she would of!

I went 5 days overdue with Kyle (well 4 days when labour started, 5 by the time he arrived). I had given up thinking labour was ever gonna start properly (I have an irritable uterus and had a ridiculous amount of false labour). I was blobbing out on the sofa watching Oprah whilst Spencer had his nap when mine started, I ignored it cos I thought it was another false one, then my waters broke.

I bet the 9th :)

I went 11 days overdue. On the day I went into labour I had gone for a drive from Thames to Waikato hospital and back to arrange my induction for the following monday.
So, might have been the long car ride...or irony :P

Or maybe whoever said that their midwife advised them to plan a meal if they wanted baby to come was on to something....I went into labour on xmas night, and didn't have bubs until boxing day so I missed out on the yummy xmas lunch I had made!

Kell, didn't you have a feeling about when my baby would arrive too, and once you made that predicition my baby arrived the next day or two instead haha, so good luck Trish!

I went 5 days over and also had a fairly horrendous pregnancy though not as bad as yours Trish. I didn't do anything different on the day that I went into labour than I had the previous 4 days, (Walking, Sexytime) but we spent a lot of time doing stuff to keep us distracted which was great, we spent a lot of good quality time together in those 4 days and I am so thankful for that. I tried tempting Murphys Law by going to the movies, the mall, out for dinner all sorts lol! Oh and my baby didn't drop till I was in Labour so my midwife had me dancing in the delivery suite to try and get her down. Once I had my epidural before I was allowed a topup I had to do a dance and shake my hips!

I tried everything (yes and even castor oil twice) and bubs didn't drop or come out. I went 16 days over and it turns out she was stuck (which is why my MW thinks she didn't drop).

Sometimes they can't come, even if they should! If we had left it, I would never have gone into labour.

Caden was 13 days over due when he was born and he had been engaged since...35 weeks I tried everything except castor oil(yuck stuff, and dangerous) to get him out and nothing worked, except, the threat of induction lol! Was booked in to be induced on the 24th June at exactly 42 weeks, and the lil bugger decided to get his A into G on the 21st at 2.30am! was born 23rd at 1.03am.

Isabella was 8 days over due when I had my c section, I didnt bother trying to get her to come on her own, as it seemed she was going to be just as stubborn as her brother and i was right

With both kids I was in total agony for the last 4 weeks with bad cervix and groin pain and Sciatica, it has me in tears every night, I just wanted them out out out!

When I was 8 days over , the mw ,said to me that it would be another couple of days, so DH and I thought fine, we'll go for lunch and then go shopping .
Went for lunch with the Inlaws, and as soon as we saw them , my contractions , the " ohhh farkkkk , now I remember " contractions started .
And cos we didn't want anyone to know just yet, I would squeeze DH's hand , was still talking tho, so very amusing
" um , yeah , Caitlyn IS AT school TODAY , sorry , NO , im FINE , just GAS ! "

Bizzy is right, I wasnt asking how to bring on labour, just how to get bubs to drop a bit
the midwife I had at the hospital said my body is ready Im at 3cm dilated and stretchable to 5cm and my cervix is completely thinned out. she said if I could get bubs to drop then that may break the water sack at the top of her head.
she gave me a couple of suggestions and thought Id ask on here what other people had tried, I wasn't after a debate post, a post to throw insults or the only thing you can do is wait thread. cause I know she will come when she is ready. hey Im 39 weeks today which is a massive milestone for me cause myself, my midwife and I believe even the OB thought Id have another preemie.
but trust me after the last few months I have been to hell and back and yes Im over this pregnancy. I know I should be enjoying it but Im not. I haven't for a few weeks really. Im over the pains, the false labours, the hospital stays, the not been able to pick my boys up, or get on the floor to play, the monitoring at the hospital every second day which without a car is about 8 buses per day, the SPD which make my life hell

well to be fair trish had already tried a few things to bring bub down -which was what she was asking more than how can i bring on labour... and i personally wasnt aware of anything that could make a baby "drop".

i know i have heard lots of women say a ride on a bumpy road has worked for them .. in fact i have heard of a lady whose waters broke during a kindy bus trip that was quite bumpy - not an ideal place tho i dont think!

tastic thats right - the only stupid question is the one unasked... i thought you got some good replies actually, especially the thing about the lying on your side... i could just imagine a whole bunch of pregnant OB women having baths on their side after that suggestion lol!

I was sooooo over being pregnant by the time Natalie showed up at 9 days over. I tried everything (except castor oil, because I couldn't think of anything worse than sh!tting myself - literally - on the delivery bed).

The thing that I believe started labour for me was actually giving up hope that it was ever going to happen! As soon as I stopped stressing about how overdue I was, everything started up, and I avoided an induction.

I think there's nothing wrong with asking for different methods, and I completely agree with RachandJack, that any method (which doesn't harm baby) should be worth a go as Trish is having a really hard time (which I can't begin to comprehend but I really feel for you hun!)

Goodness me ladies, I feel like I'm back at High School. It's actually getting to the point now that it's getting quite amusing, seeing who's guna be next to get on the defensive. I've read through all the posts, see both sides of the story and can relate to both sides of the story and think it's time now to just give it a rest. I am due the same day as Trish, have had no where near the horror pregnancy that she has but I am now at the stage I am in so much pain that I would do anything to get this baby outa me, but in reality, I realise that she is still in there for a reason and will come out when she is ready. She still has 1wk to go before her due date after all. So I'm happy to sit it out. I actually spoke to my MW this afternoon regarding natural mathods to induce labour, just out of curiosity.... she laughed and said exactly what was said a few pages back.... OLD WIVES TALES! And when they do work, it is simply coincidence. She said the most tried and true way to make baby come out is to organise a nice dinner out with your DH or something similar.... baby is bound to come out then to ruin your special night lol...... that's more Murphy's Law really so maybe all of us ladies wanting our bubs out should start reverse pyschology and see how we get on.
Trish - I really do hope Adele makes an appearance for you soon because as your txt buddy, I'm well up to date with what you are going thru, but I really don't think anything was meant by Bizzy's comments. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. So please please please don't take everything to heart, everyone is here to help you in their own way, whether it is what you want to hear or not.

i believe taking rasberry leaf tea made josh come out quick and that sex got everything starting and josh was 2 weeks early. I also have a friend that swears by 4x4 working for her kids coming early and she was drinking rasberry leaf tea as well. Ive heard pineapple is quite a strong one but josh arrived before i had the chance to try it. Oh actually sent DP/DH out of town for a few days DP missed josh's arrival cos people kept saying bub will come in his own time and most likely late.

I know i felt better trying to get Josh out rather than just waiting for him to come.

Dunno what the original question was exactly or how it was worded but some of the comments didnt seem helpful if she was just asking for suggestions on old wives tales or just anything she could try to get things moving. I agree on the 4wd thing!! My friends is a Mitzi thing that high up & is on huge wheels & very bouncy.

I went for a drive from PN out to Himahawaii, sat on the beach, drove back. Had a bath. Well I'll put my 2 cents in too. NOONE knows what makes labour start and just because some of these home inductions didn't work for some it doesn't mean they won't work for others. Sex for example is natures way of encouraging babies out a lot of midwives say "Thats how the baby got in there and thats how it will get out" Those 'old wives tales' actually work some of the time and have reasons why they work. Its like induction it doesn't work for every person the very first time but you don't say it doesn't work ever and they are a LOT stronger than any at home job. Every pregnancy is different so it doesn't matter if you have had 57 overdue babies you can't predict what the next will do or what anybody elses baby will do. I'm sure all the woman who ended up with an induction can come in here and say they don't work but I'm sure we can find plenty who can come in here and say they do.

Trish is getting induced soon so clearly there are medical reasons going on which means it is better for baby to be out than in. Have you read the possible side effects of induction? Seriously I don't know why you wouldn't try and get that baby out on its own, if it works it works if it doesn't it doesn't.

I dont think anyone was trying to upset Trish, Bizzy included.. merely putting across "babies will come when they are ready" thought. Might not have been what trish wanted to hear but thats what happened! We cant always word things the way we mean them in written form..we all know this and its a huge downside to the english language.

I can see both sides of the argument, yes, in the end I think no matter what we do , the majority of babies will come when they are ready , and the due date is usually just an estimate, there are always exceptions to the rule of course.
But I also know personally , I hate the last few weeks of pregnancy , and as soon as I hit 38 weeks I am eager to get that thing out of me , the end of pregnancy is generally pretty unpleasant ,and obviously can be worse for some , so I can sympathise with that, whether its a right thing or a wrong thing, I understand the over itness .

but the point is that she isnt going to be trying things that are dangerous to her baby hence the reason there was no point in giving her a lecture. Im not thick I know there are things that are dangerous when trying to bring on labour, you always asume people dont know as much as you but thats not the case. actually my2angels some of the methods that used to be recommended and practised (and still are in some cases) are dangerous to mothers and babies. my friend got her hubby to take her for a 4wd ride, they made it to the river (4wd driving on the way to the river) and her waters broke..in the car much to his disgust but still.. mission accomplished.

I know how you feel wanting bubs out. I was like that with Addison and was just about living at the hospital thanks to the GD and that was also after having a premmie... I just wanted it done with so I could enjoy her rather than just being horrible and miserable (and I got as much negative feedback on here as you did haha, in fact I think Jezika and I both did from memory)
at this late stage in the pregnancy there is no harm in her coming now so dont see why you shouldnt try encourage things, its not like you are going to do anything to endanger her in any way.

nobody was on their high horse trish, babies will do what they want, no matter how hard we try to make them do otherwise. I have never understood people who want their babies out - it seems to be the norm though. Even when i was overdue with my third (and also worst) i never really got that way. But i can understand i suppose why so many women do.

Its good to hear that things are progressing for you though. Who knows maybe next time you post it will be a birth story!

i have heard that EPO can ripen the cervix and you can either take it orally or insert it vaginally.   but it might be too late for that now anyway.

well with the walking etc I did over the weekend bubs has indeed dropped.
at the hospital appointment I was 3cm dialated stretchable to 5cm and my cervix has completely thinned out. she said my body is completely ready just little lady is a bit comfy. she said however that she really really doesnt think Ill make next week!

stair walking and curb walking I can't do as I have really bad SPD which makes walking normally very painful. I had a bath and layed on my side which was strange lol
and no not taking EPO = didnt think about it actually and when I did I was already 38 weeks.

this pregnancy has really taken its toll on me, its been alot harder then the other two and yes that is even with having a preemie. There are some acupressure / acupuncture points that are meant to aid in helping the baby down. I think if you google Debra Betts (I'm pretty sure that's her name - she's a Wgtn based acupuncturist) you will find a downloadable booklet that contains really good instructions.

I had acupuncture two days before Stella was born - not because she wasn't engaged but because I had had contractions on and off for a month with no result (and was completely over it!!). The woman who did it was great and I felt so much more relaxed afterwards. I'm not sure what pineapple does exactly but you need to eat quite a few whole ones lol but if aggravating you're stomach is supposed to make you go into labour then surely eating a tonne of any one type of food should work??

Diving into a pool didnt help me last night.. mind you I wasnt actually trying to induce labour, just show my daughter how to dive...   It was an impressive bellyflop at best too so a waste of energy getting out of the pool

Curb walking's meant to be good - something to do with the angle of the pelvis. Trish, prob not what you want to hear, but when bubs comes it'll probably be harder and you won't be able to put her back in so enjoy the time you have left, even if it is hard!

Other wise if you have stairs, someone mentioned running up flights of stairs in our feb forum. Said their SIL ran up 5 flights and went into labour. But remember what works for one person doesn't always work for another.

lol I struggled to get my huge girth in the bath at 40 weeks, I go tin when I went into labour with Jake but couldn't get out.

Trish, lovey, I f you are reading this, honestly, I don't believe anyone meant to hurt your feelings or offend you, they were simply saying what they thought or had been led to believe by their own experiences, remembering that we are all mums and have all "been there". I had a rough pregnancy with both, esp my #2, although I certianly didn't have the hardships you have had, I do know how much I couldn't wait for it to all be over. Unfortunately for me, that was at 42 weeks, and she still mucks around to this day!

I'm sure things will happen for you soon. We do all care about you on here.

So for all we know she could be very well ready but Trish's body needs a little bit of encouragement. I think all you can do is keep trying what you have. Try going for a walk every day (if you don't already...) it might help to get out of the house for a bit and it might hurry her up.

With the sex clitoral stimulation also works like nipple stimulation and if you orgasm the hormones and contractions of uterus can help so aim for that Also lie on your back for a bit after to bathe your cervix in semen.

The sitting backwards and on all fours is more for turning bubs into a good position but it won't hurt to keep doing it. Do you have a yoga ball? bouncing on that might help and it is also quite a good position to sit in.

you think that a mw would know that nothing will make a baby come before it is ready... if you knew nothing would make her 'drop" then why ask... of course people are going to say relax and take it easy. there is nothing else you can do. My MW said I was ready to go at 38 weeks, fully engaged, right position, and I was already 2CM, and all the rest and I still went 10 days overdue, which meant almost a month of getting my hopes up.    I tried everything I could and only then did I realise that he was a stubborn wee bugger and would only come when HE was ready, and I went into spontaneous labour while at the hospital on my induction date.

Sorry that your pregnancy hasn't been easy, it sucks being SO close, yet not knowing when it's going to happen.

I do agree with the others though, get as much sleep as you possibly can, rest, relax, look after yourself.   I know I had forgotten how much harder it is with a newborn, especially with other children.      Although I did prefer it over being heavily pregnant, in pain and overdue!

My second was engaged at 32 weeks but I still went 4 days over due so getting baby to drop might not help.

I think you just need to concentrate on resting up before she arrives.

I'm afraid I agree with Bizzy - it's going to take time. If baby isn't ready, then anything you do isn't going to hurry her along.

You're still a wee way off your due date and that is only an estimate after all. She may only drop during labour, which someone correct me if I'm wrong - that is quite often the case with second & subsequent pregnancies.
