My godsister just had hers taken out and within 4 days she was allowed to eat normal food again. Think she was a bit sore and tired for 2 weeks or so.

My mum however, had hers taken out, is on a "sloppy" diet for 4 weeks and had 2 weeks off work. I had mine removed about 10 months ago after a nasty and frequent bout of pancreatitis. You will be feeling sore at the moment, but keep on top of the pain relief. (I was on panadol, codiene and tramadol - a real space cadet!). Go easy on the food front - I was really cautious to start with. High fibre, low fat, bland food all the way. I have a really good recipe for 'poo' muffins if you would like? It is really important to stay well hydrated and keep those bowels moving.

The infection will take it out of you - I was told to take a week to 10 days off work to recover, but ended up having 2 1/2 weeks off cos I was so shattered and sore. Listen to your body it knows best.

I was also really careful when reintroducing foods to my diet that I didn't try and do everything at once. The only thing my body hasn't coped with was indian food - everything else has been fine. I have heard of people having problems with apples, tomatoes and other acidic foods - so keep an eye on that.

Good luck with your recovery, and watch any lifting for a while.

I had mine out when Sebastian was 6 weeks old. I was in and out of hospital for three weeks before that too. Mine wasn't infected though. Had the surgery on Tuesday morning and went home Wednesday afternoon. I was in alot of pain Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Turns out I had wound infection. I was on panadol and voltaren for pain relief from Wednesday morning.

I felt 100% better by about a week post surgery. I've only found eggs to be the thing that makes me feel really gross. Apart from that I eat whatever I want in moderation. i had mine out when Rhiannon was 9wks old, had the surgery friday afternoon, home sat morning...stopped taking panadol on the sunday, back to normal on the monday.

BUT

Mine was a planned removal and because you have an infection its going to take a while to recover.

I cant eat fatty or oil or overly sweet foods

Just take it easy and dont overdo it and im betting by wednesday you will start feeling human again.

Has anyone had theirs removed?

I was rushed into hospital last Weds night in excruiating pain, which turned out to be an infected gall bladder, I was developing sepsis(sp) and they took it out on Thurs. I was dosed up on morphine for 3 days but they let me come home on sat. Luckily its been a long weekend so DH has been at home and has been WONDERFUL!!

I was wondering if anyone has had it removed - how long did it take to recover, are there things that you now avoid food wise?

I am still in a fair amount of pain, and the painkillers are knocking me around some, but am hoping that in a few days time I will be feeling tonnes better.
