If the rent agreement had a number of tenants thing on it, I would think you would have to tell her on a technicality. But otherwise I probably wouldn't bother until later on.

I told my landlord when I was pregnant with Hollie, she knew we'd been there for ages and looked after the place so she gave us a minimal cut on our rent

Of course then we had Hollie, our situation changed and we found ourselves able to buy so moved out anyway It was a popular place though when we applied for it so I'm sure it didn't take her long to find someone else

Well, she hasn't put the rent up in 3 years, so it's not like she needs much of an excuse. That said, the apartment next door can't shift and they've lopped $100pw off the rental price and it's still sat empty!

I wish she'd just post me the lease though, so I can get this sorted. paperwork isn't her strong point LOL

I didn't tell my landlord I was pregnant when we moved in. They can't discriminate against you for having kids so therefore I figured it was none of her business. Plus I had only just gone 3 months pregnant.

That being said she's really nice with kids of her own so I doubt she would have cared. Yeah that's just it - business is business. In saying that, those landlords are the rarity, rather than the norm!! Good point, I'll see what the new lease states with regards to maximum tenants If it says two people, I'll let her no I'm UTD but won't say how far along.

Call me cynical, but if I was a landlord who found out my tenants were expecting a baby in 6 weeks and wanted to sign a new lease, I'd be tempted to up the rent knowing that there's no way we want to move out anytime soon over the next few weeks.

I never see my landlord. They're very happy with us as tenants, so never do inspections. I think she's been round once in over 3 years!

It's a sticky situation and some hardnose landlords will want to know, especially if on your tenancy agreement there is a "maximum number of tenants" and having a baby will put you over that number. Most landlords probably wouldn't give two hoots, but sometimes you get one who is just plain nasty and says, nope, 2 tenants is the maximum, having a baby takes you to 3 so you're in breach blah blah.

Hi

This may seem like a silly question, but does anyone know if your legally obliged to inform your landlord your having a baby?

I'm just waiting on mine to send a new lease (wanted to fix for 12 months for a bit of security) and was thinking that maybe I should tell her, but I don't want her to put the rent up!

Any thoughts?
