Thanks for all your input ladies... I am going to move Alex into a big bed this weekend as we seem to be sharing one for half the night anyway lately. We are waiting on one to be bought for him (1st birthday present from in-laws) so I think I am just going to put him in our spare bed and see how we go. We moved Lily to a big bed at about 15 mths (carried on the day sleeps in the cot for another month or so though just in case I was outside when she woke). It hasn't stopped her from waking in the night but I think that is just how she is. She still wriggles around a bit but hasn't fallen off the bed. I set her pillows in an L-shape too. We did it early because she hated her cot and it was getting near on impossible to get her to fall asleep. massive wriggler here too!! must be a boy thing

Jackson is a massive wriggler and crashes into his cot loudly all night. Sometimes he cries out when he does it. But he is a fantastic night sleeper, so it doesn't seem to affect that.

I have checked on him twice tonight, and both times he has rotated 180 degrees from where he was last.

Pillow didn't help us at all - we have the same issue is it just boys??

I will be trying this probably when he is 18 months or so - he just bangs about so much.

I've heard a pillow can help them to learn where to sleep and how to stay still. My boy isn't a wriggle so no help really.

DS1 was a nightmare at waking himself up while sleeping in his cot. As soon as we put him in a big bed at 18 months he started sleeping thru the night everynight. He has fallen out of bed only 3 times and he has been in the bed for about 8 months now.

Def worth trying. Tom was a crazy cot sleeper and is a bit of a crazy bed sleeper but generally he is lying in a normalish position. We still take photos of the weird ones. Yeah I don't think it would hurt to try him in a big bed. To begin with we left the legs off the bed and like Stacey put the cot mattress on the ground in case he rolled out of bed.

You can always try him in a big bed. Lots of kids sleep better once they are in a bed. Alex is a big time mover when he is asleep and I am beginning to wonder if this has something to do with him not sleeping all night yet (not that I am worried but I do wonder how on earth he doesn't hurt himself when I hear him banging up a storm on the cot) so I am wondering if he will be better off in a big bed. Now I know he can fall out of one so will either find one that he can't or put a side on but do you think this could be reason behind the not sleeping? I know he hurts himself cos you can hear when he does but I am not sure if I would be doing the right thing putting him in a big bed before he is ready.
